ParticipantI have a Samsung RL36SBMS Cool n cool fridge freezer which has started to display the apparently common freeze cycle where it does not go through the defrost cycle and gradually warms up.
I have replaced the defrost heater, but this has not solved it, I have a thermal fuse on order and a freezer thermostat but do not know where these are located and how to replace them.
Can anyone help?March 7, 2012 at 9:56 pm #370599admin

Hi
The thermal fuse is fitted to the right hand side of the evaporator. Have you tested this to see if it is open circuit ?. The thermostat I can only assume you mean defrost sensor as this model doesn’t use thermostats.

Do I get to it by removing the panel in the freezer compartment? I have removed this panel to fit the defrost heater but cannot see it. is it at the top of the bottom, can I trace it from the plug at the top right of the freezer area?

Hi
It’s fitted to the right hand side of the evaperator.you would have disconnected it when you changed the heater. But if you had tested it you may not have needed it.

Thanks Bryan,
The only things I disconnected were on the left hand side of the evaporator as you look at it.

Then I’m curious to know which part you actually changed as the connections for the heater are on the right hand side.
What did the heater look like ? and explain how you changed the heater ?

The part on buyspares is 5045-1721-4757-8
Defrost Heater

Sticks to the rear of the plastic cover to the left of the fan as you look at.March 8, 2012 at 2:00 pm #370605admin

Bryan,
The buyspares item is incorrectly described then? the part you noted is the evaporator assembly.
How easy is this to fit? it would appear that it is connected to the pipework at the back of the fridge will i need to cut or solder anything?March 8, 2012 at 4:19 pm #370608admin
KeymasterRe: Samsung RL36SBMS Thermal Fuse
Hi
Yes the buyspares website has misled you in the description of the part you have purchased. The heater is attached to the evaperator and is removed from the new part and fitted to your original. No soldering is required as you do not cut any pipework.

Bryan,
Just the new heater is removed and fitted? can that be done while it is still mounted in the freezer or do I need to pry it from the back of the wall?

Undo the screws securing the evap to the back wall. There is enough flex in the pipes to pull the evaporator round. Heater is clipped in place by small lugs.
