KeymasterWe have a hoover Frost Free plus Fridgefreezer with inter@act electronic controls. It is two years old.
The Fidge Freezer seems to be malfunctioning. Not remaining frost free and getting very cold sometimes (mainly fridge), othertimes freezer virtually defrosts.
An error message flashes on the display (ERR 01) which seems to be cleared by holding in both the menu and set buttons together for around 10 seconds. My guess is that a sensor is faulty somewhere.
The manual is most unhelpful, simply saying if an error message flashes call an engineer. Is there anywhere I can find where error messages are listed? While I would never mess with the refridgeration part of the apliance surely electronics and sensors are not beyond the resonably able.
Grateful for any thoughts on fixing this or any other problems people have had with inter@ct (when we went on holiday last year we put it on holday mode and everyting in the fridge froze despite the fact that the setting is supposed to be a low one as the door will not be opened!).
Thanks

hi icebox
post the model number or product code from the appliance, located on the rating plate on left hand side of the fridge next to the salad box, it will be of help to confirm the fault code.
someone will get back to you when normal working hours resume tomorrow. (normal not on a monday) 😮Cheers Bob.

Thanks for your message Bob and helpful comment re where to find model no. I had looked down all the back of the machine – didn’t think they would hide model no etc inside! Model is HCA 393 FK.
We get two error codes Err 01 and Err 07.
Looking forward to your response.
Thanks

You’re going to need an engineer for this one, it isn’t a user solveable problem.
Both of those errors indicate component failure.
Pop your postcode up, someone here should be able to help with a service visit.
Dave.

Post code is RM11 3SD. Any indication of what component(s) – are they likely to be expensive?
My guess is it is a temperature sensor!
Thanks

There you go:
Cutchey Repairs
30 Ormesby Chine
South Woodham Ferrers
Chelmsford
Essex CM3 7AR
01245 : 328798It’s hard to tell with the component price as those are two unrelated fault codes, although it is quite likely they are cuased by the same failure.
Worst case scenario would be the PCB control unit itself I would think, but at around £60 not too expensive.
Dave.

KeymasterRe: Hoover inter@ct
This is a sorry tale of a non resolved problem despite 7 visits from an engineer.
It took three visits before the engineer decided we needed a new control board and display board. This took 6 weeks to obtain.
This was fitted and while the controls at least appear to work it was clear that the problem had not been fixed. Our fridge would freeze solid a 4pt pack of milk overnight!
So the engineer thought the new board must be faulty and fitted another one.
…and still we have a fridge that would make the artic appear hospitable. An engineer is coming back this Wednesday. Any thoughts from anyone about possible other faults (presumably although the control is on the board the sensor must be somewhere in the workings at the inside rear of the fridge – my money ius on that being the problem – clearly the control board is not getting the right information.
The company we are using is APG. The have been friendly and polite and only charged us one call out charge and so far half the cost of the new board – but four months without a proper fridge is getting annoying for an expenditure which is already over £100.
Steve
PS why is it when I can get a rare CD from Amazon within three days it takes 4 weeks plus to get a fridge part!!!!!!

I have to say this is clearly down to the restrictions placed on the availability of technical information from the manufacturers to Independant repairers.
I have emailed APG some information that may help resolve the situation for you both Steve.
Spares taking four weeks to arrive, again, that is not unusual as manufacturers won’t open spares accounts directly unless you spend x ammount with them each year, so on the whole Independants have to rely on their respective distributor who may well not stock many parts as they don’t turn them over quickly enough which creates a “special order” situation.
Hope that helps explain things a little for you and, as I say, technical info is on the way to APG.
Regards.
Dave.

Certain manufacturers are most unhelpful and will not release technical information which is our biggest problem with this make. Our parts are purchased from a national distribution centre and we tend to go for the company who can get the parts the quickest as people cannot be without a fridge/freezer, but sometimes parts do take longer than expected. I do agree that these parts have taken too long and I am looking into the matter with our supplier.
Steve, I now have received technical information on your appliance and as I understand Lorna has booked you in for Wednesday to which I will attend the call.
When our first engineer visited, apparently the freezer was not working but the fridge was. He fitted a new control/defrost module and now the freezer is working but the fridge is too cold. I attended the last visit to see if the boards were replaced and to diagnos problem to obtain technical information and had to defrost thick ice from the top side of the freezer evaporator.
I will see you tommorrow morning before twelve and thank you for your patienceRegards
Andrew Goodman

Thank you to both Dave and Andrew for their swift response and my apologies if my last reply seemed a little on edge. Hopefully the extra technical information will provide the solution.
We are happy to complain to Hoover about the way they supply parts if it will help!
Steve
