    Hi all,
Yesterday I was lucky enough to go and collect the washer from someone who was kind enough to put it on Freecycle. The lady said it started to bang then stopped spining. Is three years old she has a husband and two small children. My old washer we removed the drum, bashed out the old bearings put in new ones and worked a treat for a couple of more years but is now totally knacked.
Would I be right in thinking that the bearings in the Zanussi need to be replaced? Can I get an online user manual for it?
Any guides on opening it up and removing drum etc in case we can’t fathom how to do it?
    Cheers.

This little Italian gem comes out of their factory in Spain oddly enough. So first off, and with some flamenco music playing in the background, you’ll need to remove the back panel, the top panel, the motor, the shock absorbers and then lift the whole tub out of the top!

It’s all downhill from there and quite obvious what to do next. Are you up for a challenge?

Final words of advice: Stay off the sangria ’til its all back together and working again! 😈

” Are you up for a challenge? ” Oh yes 🙂 In for a quid in for a pound as it were 🙂 One slight little thing though, I’ve been reading about the, ” You can’t replace the bearings.
The drum is plastic welded and doesn’t come apart.” ???
    Thank you.

We’d need the PNC number from the rating plate to tell you for sure but yes, there are versions of that model that have sealed tanks fitted that you cannot replace the bearing on. 🙁

You can read more sealed tanks them here:

Um interesting about sealed drums. My old Hoover Aquarius DF61
lasted years, I bought it in 1997. Was still going strong up till about 6 months ago, but the drum split and cracked, couldn’t tape it up any more, started to…. shred the clothes 🙂
Where do I find the PNC number?
    Cheers.

    Hoover Aquarius DF61???????

Aquarius is a Hotpoint brand name and a DF61 is a dishwasher.

There are several numbers on the rating plate.
    Ser.N. 72600157
    Pr.N. 914216104 (00)
and a number under a barcode

Yes, it’s a sealed tank I’m afraid so you cannot change the bearings. And, a new tank assembly is about £145 plus VAT and shipping, so near enough £200.

I would check the Motor brushes… I had the same report from a lady in Chester a few days ago and thought exactly the same as you… When I got there it was purely motor brushes on their last legs, making an intermittent connection they where causing the drum to hit the side of the machine.

You can check for movement in the inner drum and noise level on spinning by hand to assess the state of the bearings.

We just got it out of the car with the sack barrow. We spun the drum, yes is the bearing. My brother in law is going to get one of his star keys to take that metal wheel off the back of the plastic drum. Are we not able to drill out the old bearing in bits, then up end the drum and empty the bits out and then bang in a new bearing from the outside?
    Cheers.

Re: Zanussi ZWF 12070W Banging Then Won’t Spin

Nope, there’s a front and rear bearing and you cannot replace either with the drum shaft in situ as well as the front water seal. It is not possible to replace bearings without removing the inner drum from the outer tank.
