Electrolux Home Products in Cleveland has recalled 5,800 units of its air conditioning and heating units because of a fire hazard.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said the heating coil in the unit can be damaged while assembling. This can cause an electrical short and overheating, posing a fire hazard to consumers.
The CPSC said Electrolux has received reports of two such incidents, but no injuries resulted.
The units were sold by independent dealers, builders, and remodelers between June 2003 and September 2003 for about $500.
Consumers should stop using the units immediately and contact Electrolux for a free inspection and repair. The contact telephone number is (866) 335-1754.
