ParticipantI have a Smeg SUK61MBL8 dual fuel cooker which is seven months old. A few days ago I noticed the rubber door seal was hanging off at the upper right hand side, and thought it was a bit odd, but easily solved.
Had a quick look on Youtube so I didn’t make matters worse, and it appears it easily hooks back on with no hassle.
However, the hook doesn’t go back on! The metal hook is a separate part that appears to be glued and inserted into a split in the rubber at each corner, and it just falls out when I try to attach it to the oven!
Looking at the other ends of the seal, the hooks are just as poorly attached; it was probably waiting to happen.
Does this mean all Smeg door seals are as poorly made? Or have I just been unlucky? I was searching online to see if this is a known issue, but, nothing so far.
I’ve had a few cookers over 20+ years and no issues with any door seals whatsoever.
Hopefully this picture can demonstrate what I mean: http://img22.imageshack.us/img22/3936/img0016yz.jpg
Also, I bought this cooker “Graded” from an ebay appliance retailer. Their blurb says that the cooker is fully covered by the Smeg guarantee. However, Smeg dispute this and say ebay-bought items are exempt and want to charge me £35 for a new seal!
I’m waiting on the retailer getting back to me on this. Does anyone have a part number, in case I have to source it myself? I’m thinking it’s this one: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/200431413216? … 1423.l2649 (Part No: 754130519). Smeg gave me the part number SER000144455 but can’t seem to find it anywhere.
Thanks for reading and I’d appreciate any thoughts.

Hi LouLou
Smeg door seal are not known for this issue although it can happen occasionally on all makes…if the metal hook is detached then a replacement seal is the only cure. You could try emailing the Store quoting the specific model number?

Thanks for the reply.
I’ve got a replacement seal (from the ebay link above) and can’t seem to get the blimmin’ thing on! I am a bit cack-handed with these things. I attach one corner, then the other comes away.
The ebay store didn’t reply unfortunately. Don’t want to call out a handyman specifically for this..I’ll have to get onto the retailer again.

If you have the hook correctly located then it won’t come away very easily…make sure you hook it into the small hole in each corner 😉
