KeymasterHi
I have a diplomat 8502 dishwasher that came with my kitchen “free” from MFI.
We returned from holiday yesterday so the machine has not been used for 2 weeks, and also my girlfriend put washing up liquid in it last night as we ran out of tablets, we got up to a puddle on the floor and the dishwasher not working. I dont have a manual to identify the a fault code but the single on/of light flashes in bursts of two. If I choose a program and hold down the on switch, it appears to start but after about 30 seconds stops. I have checked the outlet by filling it with hot water and it pumps the water out before it stops.
Is there anything I can check before I call an engineer out?Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks
Cam

ParticipantOh dear.
There’s nothing wrong with rubber gloves when you run out of tablets. Washing up liquid is NOT designed to be put through a high pressure pump and WILL froth like crazy. The machine almost certainly thinks it’s still full of water as the foam will trip the water level control.Safest option is to leave it for a while, then run the rinse cycle several times. The objective is to flush out any remaining washing up liquid. Be there when you do it, the machine may well flood and need resetting to drain.
This is a patience problem, don’t do it again!

Thanks for the reply, is there any way I can reset the machine? I have tried turning off the power but this doesnt seem to work. There is only one button on this maching and a knob with 3 settings. No rinse setting unfortunately.
ThanksCam

Hold your finger on the start button for 20 seconds, that normally resets these.
This is a Whirlpool made dishwasher by the way 😉

Hi there,
I have the same flashing light on my diplomat 8502 (but this was not caused by washing up liquid!! I filled the machine with dishes this morning and this is what happened when I switched it on).
I have tried holding my finger on the button for 20 seconds but it just does the same program sound (actually sounds like it is trying to start draining or the sound it makes when the program starts at the very beginning just before filling commences) but then that sound stops and the light continues to flash.
There is no rinse setting on this machine, only three choices of program selected by turning a dial, so I can’t think of anything else to try.
Any sensible suggestions gratefully received.

The base panel below the machine is flooded, and the protection system has been activated. Drain off to reset system, then find leak. The commonest one can be found here:

Thanks Penguin45, will give it a go and see if that solves it. Rubber gloves on until then!

Hi Penguin45,
OK, We did what you said and it worked a treat. Unfortunately now though it looks as though the cause of the flooding was another more fundamental problem. The machine starts any program, fills and then as the program gets to the point where it starts washing (I assume this is when the spray arms are supposed to start to rotate) it makes a horrible noise and stops, waits for ages drains a little and then refills again, goes throught the trying to start washing makes a horrible noise again and then waits for ages, only for the whole process to start again. It does this through the whole cycle and then drains and dries as it should, but obviously as the water has not circulated the machine properly dishes etc inside are still dirty. I am assuming that because the machine kept filling but only draining a little in the middle of the cycle this is why it flooded in the first place, it had obviously stopped mid-cycle due to the water in the cabinet.
Do you know if this is a problem with the progam control and how to fix it, or are we going to need a new control panel?
Thanks.

Hi
Ciderthe problem will be most likely the main wash motor assembly that will need to be replaced due to either the rubber hose perished or that its an askol type motor.

Thanks Bryan – looks like I’ll be dipping into the bank account then.
