Hi Guys: Got a problem with 1 of these machines, it’s just popped it’s 3rd dry element. 1st 1 lasted 18 months from new, second 1 lasted about 13 months & I replaced that in January (Genuine from Hotpoint). She rang me earlier to say her electric had tripped so I went over as it’s only across the road, she’d been using the dryer & it tripped the mains again. Pulled the lid off & once again the element is O/C. Can’t find any blockages in the duct, only thing I can put it down to is the fact that the machine is in a small alcove so not getting enough air circulation. Glad to hear any other suggestions (Clean) 🙂

The condenser drying system is totally enclosed so ventilation is not a problem, poor quality gen or non gen elements are though. 😥

Hi Jim: Cheers mate, :eeek: must have been having another Blond moment when I said that . Think i’m going to fit a pattern part this time & see what happens, too bloody expensive to fit another genuine 1.

Whenever I have to take the heater box off on one of these I always cut out the fine mesh from the filter at the back.

How do you do that George?

When in situ you can only see the small end of the motor shaft, you can just about make out that it is moving let alone tell how fast it is going.

Do you run it with the heater box opened up to check the speed?

Serious question BTW, interested to know the answer. 8)

I’ll be perfectly honest, I have seen several fans blocked or jammed but can’t say that I have ever seen one running slow?

Hi George: Thanks mate, airflow is fine. Duct is clean but as suggested will remove the filter screen anyway.

I seem to recall something about changing the heat deflector as some of them were coming into contact with the element causing a hot spot on the element and causing them to blow. JJ

Just to finish this off: Thanks to everyone for their suggestions, but Jim was spot on. The filter mesh was totally blocked, I’ve got to admit I completely forgot to check the screen when I installed the replacement element 🙁 . Thanks Jim.
