ParticipantOur T/D has suddenly stopped working. The lights at the front show the timer counting down but there is no drum movement or heat. I have removed covers and checked the heater thermostat which meters okay. Am I right in thinking there will be no heat till it detects the motor/fan running? The motor appears silent with no humming etc. Belt is totally fine. How can I measure voltage to the motor as there are multiple connections. Also is it likely to be the start capacitor? The door switch is fine as I can see that working from the control panel. I have tried rotating the drum as wondered if it was brushes etc but nothing.
Any help much appreciated.April 27, 2013 at 3:08 pm #394274electrofix

a lot of tumble dryers wont turn the heater on till the motor is running and there are damp clothes in the drum
cant say why motor is not working but if you have an ohm meter you can check for continuity between all connections with motor disconnected

While you have it apart, pull the Motor brushes & check them. May be something as simple as that.

Does this tumble dryer have a brush gear motor?

I have feeling it doesn’t. With the motor seeming completely dead if fear the worst. Time to look for a new one I think given the price of a new motor. I cant easily see how you get the motor out.

Motor failures on any make of tumble dryer are not a common fault TBH. The motor, wiring and controls need checking with suitable test equipment first. To contemplate a new motor or dryer without doing this is not very sensible.

Sorry: When I punched the Model number of your machine into a search engine, I got a listing for motor brushes for it.

could be as simple as a badly soldered relay on the pcb
