My Lg is not dispensing ice and seems the duct door is failing to open.

i can see where to buy replacement part but cannot fugure how to get into door behind the display assembly.

does anyone know where we can view service manuals and not just owner manuals or if someone knows how to get remove the assembly it will be much appreciated.

Usually you just have to work it out. 🙁

I’m not sure how you get into the LG ones but what part is it that you think is faulty?

worked it out and discovered the duct cap assembly has broken off where it attaches to the solenoid to open it. now just need the replacement part.

You are aware that there are two used on that model dependant on the production date don’t you? That one being the earlier version.

And that if you asked, we could supply that for about £10 less, if not more.

hello kwatt, hope you see this post. the replacement duct door came and was the correct part, however, its still not working. as far as i can tell the actuator or solenoid that operates the door doesn’t work. its like an electromagnet that pulls a shaft back when activated or at least thats what it looks like. this shaft is not moving at all when switched on and so not opening the door.
Do you have any suggestions on where to get the replacement or to check if its def this part and not the supply to it.
any help appreciated. thanks in advance.

this the offending item, the silver is very stiff inside the actuator and can only presume that it should release easy or the duct door will not shut.

The flap should only open when the machine wants to dump ice out and I would imagine that this would be controlled by a relay, probably on a PCB somewhere.

Is it making ice at all?

    Does it dispense water okay?

That part would look to be the solenoid and it could be faulty but you can test it has a circuit with a multimeter, if it’s open circuit then it’s had it. That’s the actual electrical part that pulls the flap open using a magnetic field, it has no brains at all.

Scanning the tech on the model though there are any number of things that could cause the fridge freezer not to dispense ice, such as a failed ice sensor, ice maker issues and so on.

Re: lg side by side duct door replacement. gwl227ybqa

thanks for advice. it makes ice and tries to dispense it but duct door is not opening. when i saw the plastic lug had snapped off where it engages this solenoid i thought it would just be that and so relplaced it. water and everything else is fine. tried to operate with it all wired up so i could watch if the solenoid was working but the shaft doesnt move. i thought that the shaft would need to move freeley inside the solenoid for magnetic field to draw back the shaft and for the duct door spring to pull shaft back out as it closed and sealed the freezer again. i cant believe this solenoid would allow it as i need to use pliers to move it in and out.
in order to test the solenoid should i measure the resistance across its terminals?
    thanks again for help.

ive also tried to locate this solenoid on your parts section, sent an email as i couldnt see it there.

Yes, it will either be open or closed circuit.

Dave will add the part for you and it’s not there because it’s something we’ve never been asked for before. To be fair it’s the first I’ve come across that problem.

Am I right in thinking the shaft should operate freely back and forth? Want to be sure before I spend more as if this don’t solve it then I’ll have to pay an engineer or leave it. It’s just bugged me that it broke as soon as the warranty ran out and we bought it from comet.
