Hi i need a Pyrolytic double oven, built in, in a one on top of the over oven configuration.

The only ones that i seem to be able to find are De Dietrich DOD1278X Double Electric Oven, Stainless Steel at http://www.johnlewis.com/electricals/co … /c80000462

All the reviews on the internet seem to slate De Dietrich appliances as being awful.

Can anyone help on what they think of De Dietrich and hopefully suggest any other manufacturer that does this configuration.

    Many thanks

    Pete

Re: I need a Pyrolytic double oven

De Dietrich are not so bad although the parent company, Fagor, is currently experiencing some problems.

But, why do you need a pyro oven like that?

Pyro is okay (I’ve had two, one Smeg, one De Dietrich) but it’s not nirvana and you still need to clean, especially around the door as well as all the shelves. Plus, when you use the pyro function it stinks the kitchen out big time in my experience.

In all honesty, I wouldn’t bother and certainly wouldn’t pay the premium for it. I’d pay more for a top notch oven as I like cooking but, I wouldn’t for that one feature.

Several manufacturers produce self-clean (pyro) ovens but, as my colleague has said previously, they fall way short and are really not the answer you seek. In any case no-one has come up with a double oven with self cleaning top oven/grill. And they get just as messy if not more so and are a devil to clean at the best of times.

Far better instead you choose a double oven with catalytic oven liners. They self clean just as well, if not better, are a fraction of the price and can be cheaply replaced if necessary.

    HTH?

it does say that the De Dietrich DOD1278X Double Electric Oven, has a prrocleaning top and bottom oven cleaning system, is this not the case?

Re: I need a Pyrolytic double oven

Apparently it does, I did think like Martin that it would only be the main oven but it appears that the small oven is also pyro.

That being the case you may well find yourself with only one choice as it’s very unusual for both ovens to be pyro.

Well Fagor went into administration a short while ago though has since been rescued by another major brand (I think? though it’s a job to keep up these days.

Speaking personally I wouldn’t buy De Dietrich as they are nothing like the original French manufacturer of old. Nor would I buy self clean as they are unreliable to a finite degree. (but then I’m in the trade and see the rubbish that’s about these days)

Re: I need a Pyrolytic double oven

As yet there is no news on what will happen to Fagor Martin. The workers in Spain had a sit-in the other day to try to protect the company.

    Not much news from France.

Fagor Ireland has also filed for bankruptcy.

Where that leaves De Dietrich and Fagor in the UK is anyone’s guess.

As far as I am aware, no offers have yet been made for the company.

Which is why, whether I like Fagor or De Dietrich is irrelevant, it cannot be recommended as a buy until the future of the business becomes clear or, you get it at a knock down “too good to pass up” price.

HEREis a good example. (Note, it uses catalytic oven liners on both ovens – better option) 😀

Re: I need a Pyrolytic double oven

You’re getting where I’m coming from Pete. With the self clean catalytic liners all you need to do is closely follow the manufacturers instructions and your oven and grill will stay clean all the while. Avoid excessive, fat spitting, cooking due to overheating and poor shelf positioning. Don’t ram the Xmas Turkey too close to the fan or the full English bacon close to the infra reds. All common sense stuff to be honest.

    All the best! 😀

P.s. I clean the wire shelves every month with hot soapy and a foam backed scouring pad. 5 minute job.
