ParticipantBlame Funkboogy for this ( he put me up to it)….
I would just like to know from you guys if you have ever walked out of a job? Just refused to repair a machine, down tools and walked, and for what reason?
Here’s one I remember vividly:
Working for Hotpoint (BDA in those days) my customer insisted I use the back door to get in. (It was pouring with rain) I was soaked waiting for her to answer the front Door, got saturated going to the back and waiting even longer. She eventually opened the door then refused I take a single step into the house until she placed newspaper down for me to step on. When she made a pathway to the faulty dishwasher and then spoke to me as if I was a total imbecile. I never took time to put my toolbox down but just turned and walked to the front door and away!

I must be lucky as I can’t remember walking out on one yet, although I’ve come close a few times. Over the years you tend to learn how to deal with the nightmare customers. I do lots of work for letting agents and mainly students, quite often I will turn up and they say ” the agent hasn’t told me you where coming ” so I just turn round and tell them that’s fine I’ll tell them to let you know which day next week I will call, that normally sorts em out

Ashburton and Winchester, dog crap and pee up the machines. I waited while the one in Winchester was cleaned and when I took the top off it was full of rat droppings. Bye Bye!
One near Christchurch started swearing at me, I said “swear about the machine ok but swear at me and I’ll walk” He said ” you ffffing won’t” Turned round and left him to it.
All these were working for SUK and they backed me.

I walked from a few over the years and most of them were cookers. The cooker below was cleaner than the floor around it and the customer could not see what the problem was, insurance company cancelled her policy. I had to force the storage compartment door open to get to the rating plate

There’s a couple.
Main one I remember was a house on a rough estate.
As I walked past a table full of unwashed pots and pans I kept saying to myself “think of the money, think of the money.”
I repeated that several more times as I got closer to the washer and saw how filthy and grime (I think/hope) covered it was.
It wasn’t until I saw the two foot pile of rotting used tea bags covered in insects and stuff thrown against the side of the machine that I decided I’d “forgotten” something from the van and then just drove away.Another one was when I worked for Indesit, I was with the senior engineer training on the job when we went to a bungalow in Clay Cross.
It had 30+ dogs in it, and they had never been outside. Dave just refused to enter. The smell was worse than a donkey kick to the nuts.
We just walked away, and waited for the letter of complaint to head office.. it came, we got bollocked, but we never went back.November 20, 2013 at 8:04 am #404794spimps

Working for Lux a call to a vacuum cleaner and he said ” I think we have picked up some dog mess” about turned and left.
I’ve mentioned before on here the woman that shrieked”you are supposed to be the expert” when I asked on entry what was wrong with her microwave, she stormed up stairs and I exited left, totally mad.
That cooker from johnnymac11 😯 I was a part time fireman for 30 years and it looks like that one would burn fairly well.
We had a few cooker fires which were down to build up of grease, dirty pleeders!November 20, 2013 at 3:23 pm #404795lee8

Walked out of a house full of Somali’s due to cockroaches around the back of the fridge.
Got locked in twice, once by a crazy women in the UK. The other was a camp Spaniard. Both tricks worked that l needed to get out to get the parts, they kept the tools and l drove off.
Got thrown out once. Guy called me a c88t and a few other expletives, l find laughter is a great wind up in situations that have past the calm them down stage.

Walked out of a house in N16 when I took the lid off a hotpoint washer drier and the cockroaches were everywhere, it was full to the top with them, never seen anything like it in 30 odd years.
Had a drunk customer on Christmas eve take a swing at me because I did not have an element for his oven. It ended up in a stand up fight with him in the kitchen. Not the best way to give customer service. The police were called he attacked them and spent Christmas in the nick. I never did get around to ordering his element.

Gary, I think I may have been to the same call in N16. Was backed up when I explained how bad it was.
Had one more recently when I went to a Hoover Nextra, stuck to the floor, pile of crappy newspapers in front of it, place reeking of cat piss with ‘stuff’ around the machine. Asked if they could turn it on, heard the timer/selector grinding and said ‘Trip to Currys, love’ . Don’t know who they think we are sometimes, repairers or Rentokil.November 20, 2013 at 7:04 pm #404798EFS

A few years ago when I was doing a stint in East London I went to a job in Tower Hamlets.
Pulled the washing machine out and what looked like a carpet of cockroaches came running out in all directions like a scene from a George Lucas movie.
But I didn’t walk.
I ran!

I recently visited a pub in Hereford that was lets say not a modern wine bar but your spit and saw dust type. The upstairs though was one of the worst hoard places i’ve seen. The dirt on the carpet had become worn into the carpet, the place stunk of old dog pee and s88t

Got a call from Freemantle Farm in darkest Hampshire a few years back to fix a Zanussi W/D not draining. Winters day, long drive up to the farm, got muddier and muddier. Farmyard swimming in green cow shoosh, not got any wheelies, not prepaired to step out and knock on the door. Sounded the horn to attract someone to the door. Woman opened door and pointed to a old rusted shipping container across the farmyard telling me the machine was in there……!
I didn’t walk, step out of the van or even turn the engine off but just waved bye bye and drove my shite strewn van away from there………..
