    Will you take your shoes off because a customer has a cream carpet???
    I’ve been asked loads lately and politely tell customers to p**s off!

    I always tell them its health and safety and i’m not allowed to. what do you guys tell them? or what would you like to tell them?

    Used to do that when i first started but i refuse to now, i”ve come accross broken glass on floors even in clean houses!

    I have allways refused to do it and use health and safety, though being VERY considerate I bought a box of a hundred plastic shoe covers, the only problem they are always in the van and its always to much trouble to go and get them.
    My biggest hate is being told to go round to the back door I use to refuse but now charge extra for being a Tradesman!

    Same as Penguin 🙂

    It is a health and safety issue, not just for the rubber soles but your toes as well should you drop an appliance on your foot :eeek:

    I had a few calls to temples and they dojnt let me in unless i leave my shoes at the door. Normally i would refuse to remove my shoes, but its abit awkward when dealing with other peoples religion, just wondering if any of you have had calls to temples and how you deal with them.

    I actually broke a big toe lifting down a tumle dryer when the lid came off so now safety shoes a must.

    The only time I have removed my shoes is respecting others religion.

    I also use the health and safety aspect for both parties especially some of the houses we go to. You know the ones where cleaners fear to tread yet they still want you to remove your shoes ??

    But my pet hate is the same as kirk bieng asked to go round to the back door as if not good enough to use the front door

    The only time i didnt mind was when the front room was filled with more dog s**t than the kitchen ! and refused to use either door.

    I have no Nails on both big toes ,So have to wear safety footwear as a must I usually explain this and if they don’t believe me I offer to show them ,This usually does the trick and they find some newspaper .
    I don’t know what the answer is ref the “tradesmans entrance ” but it does wind me up that’s for sure,We must be one of the most multiskilled jobs going ,Electrical , mechanical ,Diplomacy that would do the UN proud ,a sense of humour ,numeracy ,literacy ( for the insurance inspections) 😉
    yet people look at you sometimes like you are dirt 🙁

    I HAVE A LOT JAPANESS IN MY AREA, IF SOMEBODY ASKS POLITELY, WHY NOT, I JUST PUT THEM ON IN THE KITCHEN, ITS A PAIN WHEN YOU KEEP NEEDING PARTS FROM THE VAN .BUT IT IS THEIR HOUSE , AND THEIR PAYING ALOT OF MONEY FOR SERVICE. EVER PARKED BESIDE CRASS VERGE ON DARK EVENING,SMELLED DOG CRAP WHILE REPAIRING MACHINE LOOKED BACK TO SEE BROWN FOOTPRINTS, I HAVE

    after a bit of a heated disscusssion i agreed to put on overshoes kindly supplied by this pain in the RS customer..once inside i had a good look round as you do , and decided that overshoes werent required..but i kept them on…customer left me alone to get on with job…and i duly travelled in and out to the van about 3-4 times with the overshoes still on….on the last return from my van the customer was waitng at the door shaking there head in disaproval…. i replied its ok im wearing the overshoes and walked past into house. admittedly they were all ripped and a bit dirty by this stage but it was quite amusing…customer at this stage had gave up trying to educate me….

    Seriously tho overshoes can be dangerous, i’ve heard of a cable tv installer slipping over on laminate flooring whilst wearing shoe covers and ending up on the sick! is it really worth the risk?

    No shoes no repair – thats the way it should be.

    Talking of slipping on laminate floor ,What about when the customer has a gravel drive and it gets stuck in the tread of your boots ,I skidded across a ceramic floor the other day ,felt like I was on ice then cust says ” hope you haven’t marked the floor..”
