ParticipantHi
our washing machine recently stopped working & when i checked the brushes i discovered that the connector on one side had completely melted and parted company with the wire. I have tried a few places online and cant find these. Does anyone know where i can source these from?
I dont know if it makes a difference but the number on the motor is:
904/1158/10
RPM 800/1500

You just need to use the 2.8mm crimp spade terminals that most DIY, Hardware or Motor Factor Stores sell locally. Or look HERE
Replace the brush assemblies too of course. 😉

OK. Many thanks for your help. One other question: The last time i replaced the brushes the ones i bought said they were genuine Hotpoint ones but i have since read that genuine ones shouldn’t get so hot that the melt the connectors. Also they have only lasted about a year ( i know overloading the machine shortens the life of brushes & we are probably guilty of this).

The ‘high temperature’ laminated type of brush (genuine Hotpoint) are just as fallible to this problem. So pattern or genuine both can quickly overheat. One main reason for this is twofold, firstly, more often than not users of the machine do not allow the machine to rest between wash loads, so the motor gets red hot. Solution : Give a 10+ minutes break between wash loads to allow for cooling. Secondly, if the armature commutator is grooved through wear the brushes don’t seat fully and spark excessively. Solution, clean commutator with a ‘commutator bedding stick’ to smooth the segments like new again.
HTH? 😀
