WHITEGOODS company Electrolux will sell its Automated Equipment and Tooling business at Woodville as part of a restructure of its Australasian operations.
The Woodville operation ““ which employs 39 workers, most of whom are toolmakers ““ will be sold as a “going concern, with minimal disruption to staff”.
The operation, which evolved from the merger of Simpson Automation and the Kelvinator Woodville Toolroom, was bought by Electrolux in February, 2001.
Electrolux Home Products managing director Trevor Carroll said there was “no strategic benefit in continuing to own Automated Equipment and Tooling”.
He said the firm was focused on its “core business of manufacture and supply of leading-edge appliances for our domestic and export customers”.
Australian Workers Union state secretary Wayne Hanson said the move was “indicative of the diminishment of the whitegoods industry in Australia”.
He said there was a “terminal disease in manufacturing generally in South Australia and Australia”
This follows news Electrolux will cease small motors manufacturing at Woodville North and phase out rangehood production at Dudley Park by the end of the year.
