I have just replaced the water inlet valve to remedy a problem: the machine was not filling with water at the beginning and the message “Water inlet fault. Open the stopcock and check the inlet hose.” was coming up 5 minutes into the cycle.

The fresh valve has stopped this – water comes in normally right at the start of the wash. The machine washes the clothes no problem. But then just at the start of the final rinse/fabric conditioner cycle (last cycle before spin) the machine drains and the “Water inlet fault” reappears. It does not progress after this.

The strange (and maddening) thing is that it only does this WITH CLOTHES in it – when you run the wash program without clothes there are no faults and the cycles continue unimpeded.

What on earth is the issue? I am stumped.

Could the drain hose be too far down the waste pipe or is there a water pressure problem?

Any ideas appreciated and mulled over.

(I will mention that the valve I relaced the old one with is second hand and not brand new. Would a brand new valve remedy the situation?)

Re: Miele water inlet fault:only completing wash with empty

with clothes in machine needs more water so it just may be a time out problem

how quickly does it fill ?

does it work if you try a separate rinse with washing in ?

    try
if you still have the old valve and if the coil is ok. pull off coil, unscrew valve stem (if its not bonded) if it comes off you can replace the rubber seal with one from a standard valve like Qualtex val01 or 03 as most of the time these can be unscrewed
