    Hi there,

    I’ve just moved into a house complete with a Diplomat ADP 8221 integrated dishwasher. Unfortunately, no matter which cycle I try to run the detergent dispenser just will not open during the wash. While this is obviously very economical in terms of detergent, my plates aren’t getting very clean! Any advice would be gratefully received. I tried calling Diplomat but the number on the brochure wasn’t recognised…

    It will almost certainly need a new soap dispenser…the operating solenoid within it will most likely have failed.
    If you look in Repairs@ you might find an engineer in your area, failing that then you can ring MFI (it’s one of their own brand machines) on :-

    Thanks for your help Clive. Unfortunately a Repairs@ search showed no engineers in Canterbury… I called MFI and they quoted £60-80 to fit a new dispenser plus £40 for the part. Does this kind of money seem reasonable for fitting? I’m tempted to have a bash myself.

    Does seem a tad high but thats what you will have to pay when you deal with national retailers and manufacturers. You could look for a local independant who will probably be a little cheaper…just ask your friends/neighbours if they have used anyone they can recommend.
    If you wish to attempt it yourself then firstly unplug the appliance. For an engineer it is an easy job, the thing to be most careful of is the very sharp door edges that are exposed when doing it.
    If you contact Shop@ with the make/model/serial then the part can be supplied to you.
    I should add that i have seen some pcb failures that will cause the dispenser to fail so unless you are competent to check for this then it would be better left to an engineer.

    I might get a local engineer if i can find one but i’m having a job finding one that’ll answer their phone!

    Just out of interest – you mention pcb failures… What does this mean?

    The pcb is the main control circuit board 🙁

    Well i ordered the part through this site. Cheaper than MFI and came through in a few days – what an excellent service!! Am doubly chuffed as i had a go at fitting it and now have a fully working dishwasher! Don’t want to tempt fate though seeing how many posts in this forum seem to say “my diplomat has broken”!!!!
