KeymasterHi,
Have a Firenzi FIDW41. It has stopped filling properly, resulting in very poor spray (no power) and unwashed stuff.
At the point it starts filling if I chuck in a bowl of water it works OK (until it needs to refill again).
When working, how does the machine know when it has the correct quantity of water? Is there a pressure/level detector or is it some other way?
I’ve checked the cabling (I am an electronics engineer before the well-meaning and quite valid voltage warnings 🙂 ) between the switching mechanism and most – difficult to check all without pulling it out… – solenoids/sensors etc.
I’ve also done a cursory check of the pipes for blockages and cant see anything. One big clue is that the cycle continues even tho there is not enough water in it; why does it do this, surely the timer stops until it detects the correct water-level?
Many Thanks
Mat

PRESSURE CHAMBER FAV ON A DISHWASHERApril 8, 2005 at 4:37 pm #131050admin

Cheers Lotusray… I dont suppose anyone knows where the pressure-switch is on a FIDW41? I’ve had a good shwish around and checked blocked pipes etc, but not found anything obvious.
I’m suspecting the switch rather than than chamber, but only because I dont know what a dishwasher pressure chamber is (and i’ve checked pipes/cavities)..

I Googled for this model and all I came up with was an Acrobat Document listing all the models and all the units to fit them in so I would guess that it is supplied from something like MFI or similar.
Oh and the only other thing that Google came up with was a link to UKWhitegoods. 🙂
To be honest the way dishwashers control their water levels varies greatly from model to model, even within a single manufacturers range of appliances. Most have some form of pressure switch, but some have timed fills as well. Others have an inlet valve and safety level switch in one unit that can cause similar faults.
I would guess that someone will know who actually produced this machine and be able to advise you further.
Is there anything on the rating plate such as place of manufacturer etc that could be a clue.
Edit..Just followed the link from google back to here and it would appear that your machine is a Zanussi. 8)

Mat,
You are looking for a small chamber on the r/h side at the bottom of the machine, with two hoses and two round blocks attached to it – these are the pressure switches and chambers. They must be clean of all residues, also check feed hoses running back across the machine.Safety first……..

Firenzi is usually a whirpool hybrid if that helps

Zanussi then 😀
I ought to use the search facilty more often 😉
Which will probably mean a new IWMS 😯

ParticipantIt’s a chuffing Zanussi – it’s on TDS and it doesn’t have the usual IWMS – it’s got a separate double pressure chamber set-up with double pressure switches. Bet it’s still sludged up though.
