ModeratorHi all was just wonder if any of you have major problems with masterpart as every time I place a order I seem to have a problem either ordering on the web or over the phone, this company seems to be in the dark ages no one there takes responsibility when something goes wrong, just w oundering if it’s just me. They just make connect and qualtex look brilliant cause how bad they are any comments?

Only have one problem and that is high number of items out of stock. Don’t have any problems with web orders, 99{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of e mail queries answered promptly, don’t order over the phone. Ordered a door seal for a very late model Hotpoint washer on Monday(yesterday) before lunchtime and fitted it this afternoon. 8)
Some very competive prices when they actually have the parts.

I’m with you Jim. Masterpart’s prices are very competitive, only, like you say they never seem to have what you need in stock. If I ever had any problem, Paul White always sorted it out promptly.

I agree that Masterpart are keenly priced for stuff they have in stock. Pricing and stock can fluctuate day by day. They are not good on special orders in my experience.
Maddocks are well worth registering for. They revamped their website and improved their terms early this year and I find they often win on price, cost of delivery (free above £60, like Masterpart) and on special orders.
I support these smaller suppliers whenever I can to do my bit to counter what I see as the unhealthy dominance of Connect and Qualtex in this sector.

I’ll try again…wouldn’t worry about it, your not missing much!
they lost my trade, after 30 years with them, a few years ago when they cut my access to their site for lack of use. True, I didn’t use them that much, but they were on my regular list for checking prices and stock and if they had the part at the right prices they would have got the order. Since they shut the shop door in my face they don’t get anything- yet still spam me with email “special offers”November 29, 2016 at 11:57 pm #442842stratfordgirl

I opened an account with Maddocks a few years back and they barred me from their website as I hadn’t ordered in a month. They’ve changed their tune now, their stock levels are reasonable, prices are good and the whole operation seems pretty customer focused and slick.

I’d have to say HTM are pretty good but, with caveats.
Getting an OPN, forget it which makes finding and cross referencing stuff a total nightmare at times. For me and what I do, that can be a big issue and most likely stops HTM getting more business.
Getting any answers on some stuff, you may as well bark at the moon at times.
But we still do a lot with them as, if you can overcome the problems they are often cheaper, faster and can be extremely helpful when they have mind to be so.
If they could get some of the niggles I have sorted they’d likely see a 10-20{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} jump every month in turnover.

When I 1st started repairing I used maddocks which are close to me but I found them unreliable and expensive compared to connect and hard to find parts I haven’t ordered anything for 6-7 years with them another company that is similar is homespares I haven’t ordered with them for ages either and don’t have access to the both websites so I haven’t got time to be on the phone to reactivate these accounts but still get emails with offers which ain’t any good anyway

Stopped using them some time ago, ordered on line, part shown as in stock.
Order confirmed by email. Next day no delivery, called to be told they must have sold the last one before my order was processed, should be in stock again soon. Result one of our customers let down, we had a bad review on Yell.com.
They have called us asking why we have not placed an order for sometime, when you tell them, they say things have improved. Too little too late.November 30, 2016 at 9:11 pm #442846jess1ca

Okay folks I probably won’t win popularity points for this but…
REALITY CHECK!!
If you go on just ordering from Connect primarily and perhaps Qualtex as they “have stuff” largely as many don’t bother checking beyond the two I imagine (well, I don’t, I know in a number of cases) or “you get “free” shipping” then hell mend you when you’ve got only one or two suppliers. That you often see people bitching about on here for prices and all that stuff.
So, wake up call here.
You NEED to support the smaller suppliers or they will disappear and you’ll be left with zero choice, just what you get shoved in front of you and, if the price is stupid for the parts well tough. But never mind, you got the (NOT) “free” shipping eh?
Sometimes I really feel like telling people to extract head from anal passage! 😉
I say that as I and others have said on here many, many times, even with the “free shipping” included other are often cheaper even if you have to pay carriage.
And, you can save an absolute bl00dy fortune on parts by shopping about. I’m talking a LOT of money, even small repairers can save tens if not hundreds of pounds a month.
Now, do you want to put that towards paying for someone else’s Ferrari or, do you want it in your pocket?
Your call.
We’ve talked about this at numerous conferences and, shown just what can be saved if you try a bit. Yes, sorry about that but, it does require a little effort on your part so as you can save your money and make more.
If you don’t well, who’s fault is that then?
In order to do so you need to be using the following:
Connect
Qualtex
AWS
Masterpart
HT Maddocks
Homespares
LF PartsI sit all day long with all of them open in tabs along with a few others we use.
If I gave it all to CDSL and/or Qualtex alone, I’d be thousands of pounds a month worse off and, if you’re doing that you want to rethink what you’re doing pretty damn fast IMO.
Hell even we’re cheaper than either at some of the “trade” prices with our retail price, including shipping!
If you’re too lazy, can’t be bothered or are harbouring a grudge from times past well, so be it. Just don’t whine about what you get spanked up for as, you are encouraging that the way I see it by not promoting competition.
If you need help with sourcing ask. Even better go to the conference in Feb and a bunch of us are there that will explain it to you and how to save a shedload of cash on parts.
Just don’t whinge about it all if you’re locked into using a couple of suppliers because it’s convenient.
AKA and IMO, people too lazy to shop about.

Well said Ken, I have accounts with all of them except LF, and can vouch for the substantial price differences. There is no rhyme or reason – one of the smaller suppliers can sometimes offer the same genuine part as Connect or Qualtex, but at half the price.
To get good prices, you have to shop around continually. Those with reps are pretty quick to up the discounts after they speak to me, but then a few months later the prices start creeping up again. It’s like any of the major retailers or utility companies – offer an attractive deal to start and then rely on customer apathy to stick with them when the prices go up.
I also often deal direct with BSH, Electrolux and Whirlpool/Indesit, especially for low volume parts, as their trade discounted prices are sometimes cheaper than the wholesalers, if a little slower to despatch.

Ken, what makes you think most of us are not doing as you describe?
In HTM here will be no shopping around if they cut off access to their site. I spend half my evenings shopping around thanks, don’t want to spend half my day doing it as well by having to phone them.
Connect prices have moved downwards massively this year and are now back to being a viable option as their stock holding is good- pains me to say it but its true. Think they have realised their trade supply has fallen off and have taken steps to remedy it.
Everything is ordered after checking all and more of the sites Ken has mentioned + the manufacturer involved. There are other things to take into consideration such as how well they deal with faulty returns and reliability of delivery service. -
