First one of these I have encountered, customer complains of no heat. She says it was working fine until she opened the door mid cycle without switching it off. The fault occurred on next use.
Any known areas to look at?
Jim.

My guess is she’s now flooded the base?

Normally Heat pump failure.
Nice & easy to get to & to change.
Lid off & right side off & module removed.
Or kick plinth off, door off then front panel.January 12, 2017 at 4:29 pm #444415timdowning

Flooded base generally wouldn’t cause no heat, I’m assuming it’s still washing but now cold?

Yes, base is dry just washing cold. I did get the cover off the module but wasn’t sure what resistance readings I should get on the two, thick red wires. Tried to lift out the module but it seems stuck at the back end, didn’t want to force it.

unplug the mains lead from the back of the machine the module should come out

The two red wires are the heater connections, so should read as a normal heater. Generally though it will be open circuit if the element has gone.
The module lifts up & to the left (couple of lugs need to be prised with a flat bladed screwdriver) (with kettle lead removed as mentioned above)

Thanks for that, it must have been the plug at the back that was holding it in I guess. I was getting around 500k? across the two red wires.
Is it just a coincidence or could opening the door mid cycle cause problems?

start a cycle and measure the power from pcb to element. If no 240 coming through its board.Have you ever taken apart a heat pump? Its a metal tube with “printed” element path on it. Usually dishwasher and wm heating elements are max few hundred ohms.

Most modern machines won’t show 230 volts if there is no load on component being tested. (Element open circuit)
That can then lead to a false diagnosis of a board fault.
I’m sure Jim is aware of that a reading of 25 – 40 ohms is about right for an element.
Knowing how sensitive the newer elements are I wouldn’t be surprised that opening the door caused it to fail.January 17, 2017 at 10:07 pm #444422iadom

Thanks for follow up replies, was looking forward to changing heat pump but sadly customer has decided to bin it. 🙁

Shame, less than £50 for a new heater/motor on these.
