Mains up to main pcb but display is totally dead. I did check on the mains socket and found the polarity reversed but it has apparently been used on this socket for some time. Just in case I did try it in another good mains socket but no joy. I am assuming the pcb has died, unless you know better. 😉
From Memory you need to change the SMPS chip (LNK304 I think) plus the fusible resistor and the bead inductor, if I remember correctly it uses basically the same power supply circuit as the Whirpool washing machine and tumble dryes but with a different value inductor and resistor.
Could the fact that it was plugged into a socket that had reverse polarity have been likely to have caused the failure, if there had been a power surge for instance?
The reverse polarity shouldn’t have made much difference although it may be possible.
My personal experience is that this range of smps chip will run for 6 to 7 years and then fail for no obvious reason after which it blows the bead style inductor and then the fusible resistor blows to stop further damage.
