Hi all, I’m getting this error code after replacing the main circuit board for a door lock sensor issue which is now resolved – (it’s a used board though, so I guess it may be the problem itself?).

Here’s what the guide says I should do
    1. Check water heating element for continuity
    2. Check water heater for earth leakage
    3. check heater resistance
    4. Check all wiring and connectors to the heater and from there to the main controller
    5. Check main control unit

    Here’s what I’ve done
    1. I don’t know what this means
    2. measuring resistance from the earth to the live and neutral gives megaohms.
    3. it measures 27ohms which seems right for 2kW
    4. they seem OK
    5. Well I have no idea how to do that!

I’ve also seen elsewhere to check the motor brushes (it’s 9 years old) and also relays on the main circuit board.

Any ideas, particularly help on 1 and 5 and if I have done 2 correctly? Cheers…

1 and 3 are the same so you have done that

2 gives megohms but how many and to be accurate it would need to be checked with a 500v insulation meter. to apply logic before the old board failed it was not a problem so chances are low its faulty now

the heater is controlled by a relay on the main pcb. its not unusual for the soldered connection on these relays to fail. find the relay and have a close look at the solder joints

Thanks. All solder joins look great.

Re measuring the earth with my £12 maplin multimeter gives 100k ohm which was rising slowly but I got bored.

disconnect wires from heater and check to earth

at 100k to earth is far too low

    Ta – infinite resistance measured.

    Now for the motor brushes!

    take old brushes off
if they have failed they will be very short. new brushes stick out about an inch. anything over 1/4 inch should work ok but would need changing if there are no other faults

    Thanks.

The brushes looked great, easily 10mm of wear left in them, and zero ish resistance.

Might get a man in now!…or look at a replacement

Oddly it doesn’t go into test mode when you press reset 4 times on switching to drain.

So I tried a run and it then gives me a F21 error.

    I’ve ordered another board…

Well the other board gives the same errors.

    Time to call a man…
