ParticipantMy JLWM120 completes the prewash filling, starts the main wash fill, stops after one second then drains, switches off and shows zero on the time display.
There is a twist in that if I switch to the service settings then I can fill as much as I want then rinse and drain. On two occasions after doing this, I have been able to intitiate a complete standard cycle.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be very welcome.January 8, 2018 at 7:24 pm #4528281totalshambles

What happens if you just set the machine on spin? Have you seen the drum go round in your experiments? Have you checked the motor brushes because on those things ( and many other makes out there ) a lot of stuff is wired through the motor and if the brushes are a gonna strange things will happen and what you describe is one of `em.

The 10 minute spin works perfectly right up to 1200 rpm
I haven’t looked at the brushes yet.January 9, 2018 at 3:13 pm #4528301totalshambles

Well if it spins it won`t be the motor brushes unless absolute boarder line running on the brush dust but I`d have a look all the same as you say. The carbon bit when new is about 2″ long.

Thanks, but since there is absolutely no direct evidence of a brushes problem and my bad back would not be too happy at my manoeuvring the machine to get access to them or remove the motor is there any other plausible cause?

if you can get into the service settings what is the last reported fault code ?

Oh yes! Check that heater 😉

Thank you.
The element resistance is about 32 ohm and the thermistor is about 4K ohm. The latter is much too low, if my web search is correct,
so am I right in thinking that I should replace the heater?

can be an earth fault on the heater that’s not enough to blow your house trip but enough to upset the electronics

I cannot see how could that account for the resistance readings that I obtained

is not the reading between the 2 main terminals ( 32 ohm ) but is the resistance between either of the terminals and earth and it should be in the millions of ohms
try disconnecting the wires to the heater, insulate and make sure they are secure enough not to touch anything, then run a cold wash and see what happens

Thanks, but I did disconnect everything from the heater before measuring the heater and the thermistor resistance. I have also extracted the thermistor and it is definitely dead.
I have ordered a replacement from this site.
