KeymasterElectrolux larder fridge RF593
Have bought a replacement thermostat. Previous one was connected:
from mains:
Green to stat earth connector
brown to stat 4
black to stat 6 AND connected to light switch
Blue to compressorFrom light switch:
white to compressorThis previously woked (till the stat gave out) but seems strange – hat about stat connecor 3?
How would you expect the connectors to go?

Thanks — yes I’ve seen that online. But can’t work out which wire is which. Particularly as it seems to only show 2 wires incoming (I assume earth is in therre too – that’s not a problem). But I have 3 incoming wires:Black, Blue, Brown.

ok
1 what numbers were the wires connected to on the old stat
2 with a multimeter and all wires disconnected then 1 of the wires comes straight from the plug live and that’s connection 6

so from that you are saying there was only 2 wires on old stat
if yes ignor connection 3 and put wires on corresponding numbers

KeymasterRe: thermostat connections
That’s what I initially did. Connected up the new one exactly as the old one had been connected.
Fridge came on – and stayed on. No thermostatic control so it just got colder and colder……

Thermostatic connection is between 3 & 4. The other connection adds an off switch
If your not getting control and it is getting too cold in the fridge then I would be thinking faulty statYou did not damage the tube in any way did you ? Have had people cut it thinking it was electrical before today any wonder why it failed to wirk

So the full history:
Fridge stopped working and suspected the stat.
Bought new stat (elsewhere).
Wired it in exactly as the original and fridge started but remained on constantly.
Supplier offered full refund.
Bought new stat from UKWhitegoods
Wired it in exactly as the original and fridge started but remained on constantly.
Discussed wiring with UKWhitegoods and tried re-wiring based on wiring diagramme
Fridge does not start. My conclusion is the original stat had a fault. The replacement stats have no fault. The wiring is the issue.
Originally connectors 6 & 4 had wires, and UKWhitegoods tell me “4 is the compressor feed. 6 is the live feed in. Goes onto the light switch.”
Part of my confusion is the incoming wires:
Brown I assume is live.
Blue = neutral.
Green = earth.
Black = ……??June 19, 2018 at 7:22 pm #456377electrofix

Brown mains comes into the stat and feeds the lamp switch
blue is the neutral and is only needed to power the lamp
black is the switch wire. Takes the live to the compressor. when this is live compressor runs when its not it stops

Latest attempt reulted in compressor running, but stopping when the door was closed!
I really appreciate your help, but still not quite there
Brown mains comes into the stat and feeds the lamp switch
blue is the neutral and is only needed to power the lamp
black is the switch wire. Takes the live to the compressor. when this is live compressor runs when its not it stopsBack does not make sense to me – You seem to be saying it connects the stat (4?) to the compressor, yes? However, black is one of the incoming wires in the main cable (along with blue, brown and green).
At present I am using
Brown from cable to stat (6)
Brown from cable to lamp
Blue from cable to compressor
Black from cable to lamp
White from stat (4) to compressorPlan to try swopping blue and black, though not sure what difference that will make if any.

KeymasterRe: thermostat connections
Well that didn’t work either. But I now suspect that what I thought was the connector to the compressor may be the connection to the light bulb. This is different to the connector to the light switch.
So maybe that’s what the black wire in the cable is? conecting back up the cable from the stat to the compressor?
Why is none of this clear from the various wiring diagrammes?

Brown wire to terminal 3 black wire to terminal 4.
With the thermostat turned to the off position turn on the mains power and the compressor should not run.
Turn the stat on if the compressor runs then this should then work ok.

In your case with only 2 wires connected to a stat the compressor would always be attached to number 4. ( Black ).
Then brown would always be connected to 3 or six.
6 is normally permanent live to run the light. And 3 is normally the switched terminal between 3 & 4. So the brown in your case would fit on 3 or six depending how the machine is wired.
If the stat is in the off position with the mains on and the compressor runs with the brown on 3 then you would have to swop the brown to six.

KeymasterRe: thermostat connections
Many many thanks all. I’m making progress.
Brown to stat connector 3 (& black to 4) and nothing came on.
Brown to stat connector 6 (& black to 4) and compressor and light came on.
Only 2 probs now!
1) fridge gets really cold even on lowest (warmest) setting – water freezes. However the compressor does switch on/off, just stays on too much.
2) when the compressor switches off, the light switches off too. (brown goes to light switch as well as stat 6).
