ParticipantOur combi oven (in microwave mode) switches off after about 20 seconds. Any ideas why?
January 19, 2019 at 8:44 pm #460065electrofix
Moderatorit will only do this in microwave mode but its because the microwave section has not started
there is no one component I could point to cause this and if I could it would be dangerous to work on as the voltages involved are around 5000 volts
the good thing is the microwave section uses Panasonic works so parts are a lot cheaper than getting them from Bosch

ParticipantBosch use Panasonic parts too!! I saw them on the side when the Bosch man replaced the invertor & magnatron – £400….. Our hands were tied because these combi ovens are damm expensive & to replace like for like is a whopping £1500.
Anyways – all was good, microwave worked for a few days & we are back to square one, its switching off after about 20 seconds again……. Phoned Bosch & they are coming out tomorrow (obviously free of charge). I already had them booked for tomorrow because dishwasher has broken too…..
Our Bosch appliances are 5.5 years old & feeling somewhat disappointed & out of pocket. 2 appliances break down within week of week of each other. Why isn’t stuff built to last these days???

Moderator£400 ouch you should have been able to get an independent to do it for a lot less
its bad luck that both of these appliances have failed but hopefully they may not charge you for calling for the dishwasher as the have to return for the microwave

ParticipantGot fed up with local engineers that either didn’t turn up or returned my calls. A shame as they are welcome to have my custom! All my Bosch appliances are breaking down 1 by 1….. So they’ve missed out there….
Any repairs by Bosch are guaranteed for 12 months, so I’m well covered & Bosch has already said there’s no call-out charge. Just a coincidence that the dishwasher is being looked at tomorrow so it made sense for the Bosch man to take a look at the oven at the same time.
I got it wrong – husband said they discounted it to £335, but this also includes replacing the internal glass & seal (cracked)
Call-out – £99
Magnatron – £80
Invertor – £100TOTAL £279 – do you think this still expensive?

ParticipantEven the Bosch repair man is baffled…….
He’s just replaced the Magnatron & Invertor that he fitted last week & guess what…… it’s still witching off after about 20 seconds.
1.5 hours later & he’s now stripping the oven down. Just can’t find the source of the problem.
More follows as I get it.

ModeratorI know those sort of faults they are not easy
on your unit the main board talks to the microwave invertor and it talks back. So when you start the microwave the board says go but if the invertor does not reply with reply that all it well then the main board aborts
so the problem can be invertor and or magnetron, main board, microwave fuse or wiring
glad he is doing it as at least Bosch can afford to fit a main board and get it wrong

ParticipantHe has done loads of tests with a handheld thing & can’t find out what the problem is…. 2.5 hours later….. He is going to make some enquiries & come back another day. If it can’t be fixed then I will get a full refund of what its cost to fix so far.
He now needs to fix our Bosch dishwasher – thats gone wrong too….

ParticipantBosch engineer has booked another 2 hour visit next week & will bring another engineer with him to see if they can fathom it out – 2 heads are better than one!

ParticipantEpisode 3…..
The original Bosch man + his colleague turned up today. The colleague is almost certain its the left hand switch is faulty – which is causing the microwave function to automatically switch off after 23 seconds.
New door switch on order & will be fitted next week. No charge for this extra part. Despite the original Bosch man doing all the checks with his handheld device, the colleague said it doesn’t always identify a problem on the door switch.February 6, 2019 at 11:58 am #460078thrombel
ParticipantEpisode 4 next week!
