ParticipantHi all. New to white goods but have followed the rabbit hole on the tinterweb and found myself here.
I’ve got a Neff S51M63X1GB that’s throwing up E24 draining error. After checking for debris and attempting to clear the pipework with hot water and bicarb, I’ve ended up stripping the machine (wow, they made it hard!).
My question is, does this look like water has found its way into the impeller or do they normally look like that? (can’t upload pics so will try and host and edit shortly but for clarity, it’s patchy brown behind the impeller)
Also, in the heat exchanger matrix, there appears to be dark brown and pink stuff in the left hand side approx 14 inches above the foil water outflow – is that normal or do I need to try cleaning that as well?Cheers.

ModeratorThat pump doesn’t look that bad, it should not spin freely but flick round in quarter turns. A very common cause of pump blockages are small pieces of broken glass, they often get dislodged as you remove the pump so you don’t always find the culprit. The ‘‘heat exchanger matrix’’ is far more likely to be the water softener matrix. It is filled with what appears to be a brownish goo which is perfectly normal.

Thanks for replying. There’s nothing stuck in the impeller and it does spin as you describe. Re: the matrix – I checked the exploded diagram and it’s listed as the heat exchanger – it’s a large plastic reservoir that covers the whole left hand side of the machine. In terns of the grot in it, from the impeller, a pipe goes in, goes through a series of pipes and then back out again. It’s in that lot that the pipes are discoloured. Here’s a couple of pictures.

No, it stops working after just a few minutes and displays E24

Moderatoron this model the current feeding the pump is used to determine if its empty. as the pump wears the current increases and fools the computer into thinking its still full
or the pump is ok and the timer is faultythe only way you find out is fit a pump.
is there any play in the impellor left to right which would indicate bearing wear

ModeratorThat gunge is often seen when the dishes are not rinsed before loading together with using the economy wash all the time, difficult to clean out to say the least.

When you say pump, which pump do you mean? (bear in mind I’m a novice so may misunderstand ‘simple’ things).

Moderatorthe drain pump. as its draining it needs more power to lift the water. when its empty the pump is full of air so uses less power

Part 455 in this diagram?
https://i.postimg.cc/sfPJ9Htg/Screenshot-20190726-071927-com-google-android-apps-docs.jpgWhen I first cleaned the impeller, there was what appears to be a broken/decayed rubber seal in the bottom – do you think that’s relevant? I can attach a pic if helpful.

Moderatorunlikely if a seal had come off it would leak. there is no seal around the impellor

OK.
Can I confirm that you’re suggesting part 455?
Cheers again.July 26, 2019 at 10:34 pm #462582electrofix

but I cannot promise a cure as it could also be a faulty control board

Thanks. You asked earlier about play in the shaft – there is none left to right but there is front to back (i.e. the shaft pulls in and out slightly).

Moderatorwell then unless the bearings a bit stiff or its pulling a higher current for some reason it all points to the board being faulty
