ParticipantHi I have just got a second hand diplomat adp-5701 range cooker and the lower element was not working .
i have just installed a brand new lower oven element but it’s still not working.
Would the next thing to look at be the oven selector switch ? At the moment it still works for everything apart from lower element modes .
ThanksDecember 9, 2019 at 4:05 pm #465046Specialist01269
ParticipantHi: For any further testing, you really need to have access to a Multimeter and know how to use it.

ParticipantSorry: Forgot to ask, was the element tested before being replaced ? & What did any testing show ?.

ParticipantHi thanks for getting back to me .
yes I have a voltage tester , I didn’t test before hand as the person I got the cooker from gave me money off to get a new element so just ordered and replaced today .
I’ve just done a continuity test on the old element and that does infact test ok .December 9, 2019 at 4:28 pm #465049Paul Fletcher

is the element connected directly (normally) at the selector switch ?

ParticipantHi: Due to the Dangers involved We don’t actually encourage live testing of appliances. That being said, we can’t actually stop you doing so.
When you say Voltage tester could you explain further, do you mean a Multimeter or a Neon screwdriver ?.December 9, 2019 at 5:18 pm #465051Paul Fletcher
ParticipantYes a multimeter, I understand you can not encourage live testing on circuits .
im a audio/visual engineer so competent to test on live mains/low voltage circuits .December 9, 2019 at 5:19 pm #465052electrofix
ModeratorI would trace the wires from the lower element back to the selector switch and look for signs of burning or contact damage

ParticipantOk makes sense
thanks again for your advise.December 9, 2019 at 6:14 pm #465056Specialist01269
ParticipantHi Paul: If you don’t have 240v to the element, you need to find out whether the Live or Neutral is missing and trace that side of the supply back to where it disappears.
