When I press the power button the power light briefly lights and then fades. I cannot start any washing programmes. Any ideas of what is wrong please?

    |Have checked the supply is okay?

After that, mains filter then mins switch, then you get into the more difficult stuff.

    Hi Kwatt

I know the power supply is fine because I can hear the solenoid is working. The dishwasher is near to our main water supply inlet and causes a small bit of water hammer. Sorry for the stupid question but how do I check the mains filter and mains switch without replacing them?

The mains switch is usually reasonably simple as that’s just a make/break switch effectively for more, the format varies but the same idea on all.

    It’s this: https://shop.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/816450164-smeg-dishwasher-power-switch

Simply metering it will test if it’s okay. All it does is make or break.

The mains filter is really a capacitor in disguise and if they got there usually evidently failed but I do think that’s a long shot here. That said, it’s not an uncommon thing to fail, this kind part is what you’re looking for but the format can vary:

    Door switch, maybe.

But from what you’re saying, if it’s trying to fill and not, the valve needs checking as well.

After that though your into checking the recric pump, boards and stuff so it gets a lot harder.

    Hi Kwatt

Thanks for the info. I haven’t got a test meter, but power must be getting through otherwise I wouldn’t hear the solenoid. It isn’t trying to fill, I’m not getting that far. I’m assuming it must be a problem with control panel, otherwise I would be getting a series of power lights showing an error code. I press the power switch, hear the solenoid move and then nothing.

    Regards

Possibly but that’s not an easy machine for beginners as it’s’ got three boards in it if memory serves.

But it should clear the sump first so, are you hearing the pump running or a valve? After it clears the sump then it’ll fill. Then it’ll start to wash and heat.

The trick is working out what bit of that it’s not doing.

    Hi Kwatt

Thanks for all your help, it’s a bit complicated for me and I haven’t got the equipment, so I’ll get an engineer to have a look at it.
