welcome to the biggest grey area in this trade

i have always done it with the idea that as long as i do not remove any pipe going to or from a gas component then i could do it

we have long asked for some clarification as gas engineers are not always good at electrical faults

ok that clarifies it haha. i think ill stick with my usual way just to be on the safe side .if i disturbed an already weak component on the gas side when stripping down . well just not worth the chance

Oh well, link posting only seems to work at domain level, so here is the link in text:

Remember the last person to work on an appliance is responsible for it.

A gas safe test should be carried out after a repair as how do you know a leak was not there before you repaired it or if you have disturbed a joint while you repaired it.

if anything happened after you left how could you defend yourself in court.

You can still repair but get the customer to sign to say you have advised them to have a gas safety check before using.

Another way around it is for the customer disconnects the Appliance from the gas push fitting and reconnects it themselves and signs to say they have done it.

It then makes the customer responsible if they do not take your advice to have a gas safety check.

Better to be safe than sorry.

The customer can legally connect and dis connect a gas cooker as long as it In the 1st instant is done by a gas safe engineer. I personally don’t advise this as if the bayonet fitting is leaking which I’ve had a few times then you will get gas coming through

As I said advise to have a gas safe test after it is reconnected and before using.

It is better to pass this type of work to a gas safe registered person.

It could save you a lot of hassle.

No problem for you then plus you can charge more for a repair.

Gas safe appliance engineers are becoming a rare breed.

Keep safe in these worrying times
