ParticipantA spin cycle on this washing machine was running, our fusebox tripped. After resetting the fuse and everything coming back on. It was then apparent the machine had a problem.
On trying to do another spin cycle, as a test, the drum spins very slowly and there’s a clicking sound. I then reset the machine, powered off at the mains for 20 minutes, plugged back in and tried again. The drum moved a few inches then it stopped.
I reset again and it did the same, drum moved a few inches, then nothing and it doesn’t proceed in any way.
Any ideas please?

Moderatorif you turn the drum by hand does it click ?

ParticipantThank you Dave.
Turning the drum by hand doesn’t click. There is a nylon sounding rub, presumably the belt making a normal noise?

Moderatorwhen you spin the drum, looking at the front of the stailess drum does it look like its wobbling a bit and the noise happens in the same place as it goes round ?

ParticipantThere’s a very slight quiet click, though not sure I’d call it a click, every inch or so. I’ve spun the drum before this problem happened, even when brand new and I think the slight noise it does make has always been there and ‘normal’?
No apparent wobble. The centre point remains solidly in place during revolutions.

bit difficult to diagnose from here but
check if your machine has carbon brushes and see if they are worn. sometimes when brushes spark they can trip the rcdDave

ParticipantThanks Dave. They do have carbon brushes.
There’s a spare part listed for them. Are they relatively easy to fit?
Happy to gamble that they’re the root of the fault for the price of the part!

Moderatoreasy to check remove them and look at the length of them
if the end of the brush is sticking out of the end of the holder 5mm or more and the face of the brush is shiny then it cant be the fault. although if they are down to 5mm it wont be long

ParticipantThanks again. Will have a look.
If it’s not the brushes what else is it likely to be?

Moderatorthe 2 most likley components to blow a trip are
motor and heaterDave

ParticipantThe carbon brushes are fine, and are still in contact and have plenty of ‘wear’ left.
Any other ideas? It sounds as though a switch activates, the motor tries to turn, then repeats this cycle 2-3 times before giving up.

Moderatortry taking the belt off and see if the motor runs and what it sounds like
also try spinning ther drum with no belt on but watch your fingers when you do it

ParticipantHi,
With the belt detached and looking at the motor spindle, the motor tried but didn’t move at all. The. After a around 10 seconds it tried again and didn’t move at all. After another 10 seconds the motor spun like crazy, and I then turned it off.
I powered on and tried again and it didn’t budge again.
The drum seems to spin feely and smoothly with no belt attached.

ParticipantThanks. I have attempted to remove the motor, there’s two bolts that have been removed and the motor won’t budge. Should it just ‘pull off’?
If I can remove it I’m happy to replace the motor.
