This is the first time I have been to one of these. I usually pass all Philips/Whirlpool onto a mate nearby who is an ex Philips engineer. This machine belongs to an old friend so I volunteered to take a look.
The belt is fraying but although that will need replacement, the main problem is poor heating/drying.
From what I can gather, this machine has functioned fine until a couple of weeks ago, when the customer noticed the filter light on. I am not sure how well she has cleaned the filter in the past.
Now when it is on a ‘Cottons/Cupboard Dry’ setting she says that it starts OK and seems to heat but then the heater stops working and the load is still damp.
I have asked her to try it on the 60′ timed cycle to see if it will dry on a timed as opposed to a ‘sensed’ cycle.
Element is fine, any suggestions before I pass it onto my friend in Royton.?

check the internal ducting, and fan housings , and outer ducting if fitted. sounds like an exhaust airflow problem

When I tried the machine for about five minutes, I got a good strong flow of warm air.

If you have Sios cd there is a test program for this dryer you can access.
Tried to cut & paste but it dont work 🙁

Sorry, don’t have anything on Whirlpool/Philips gear. Do very few calls on them, if anyone can get me details of the test routine I would be most grateful.

Those stats do not look anything like the ones in this machine, also , it is not a condensor dryer, it is a vented model.

The most common intermittent problem with these is the thermostat on the fan ducting near the front. Access behind the plinth I believe.
Otherwise, suspect one of the stats on the element, which comes complete with both of them (stats not available seperately).

Files received, thanks. The fan duct stat is easy to reach with the back panel removed, I will need to do this to fit a new belt, when I find the part number of same. 😉

Edit. Is that the vent stat part No: just had a poke around in Qualtex Freefind and the double stat kit ( square stats ) is available at £9.00 + vat.
The heater element is also shown and apparently fits a Bosch model as well, although this dryer is made in France.Re: Whirlpool AWZ241 TD

Qualtex do indeed supply a TOC kit for this element, but whenever a stat goes the element is best part knackered anyway. Always pays to replace the element assembly (the’re cheap enough these days)

I have spoken to this friend of mine a short while ago and it seems that my suggestion to try the dryer on a 60′ timed cycle as opposed to using the ‘sensed’ drying of the ‘Cottons/Cupboard Dry’ setting has worked fine.
This would suggest that the element and the stats are in fact OK. On the Hotpoint electronically controlled dryer, the ‘sensed’ programmes are controlled by the module checking the increasing resistance through the load as it drys, how is this achieved on this machine? I could not see any sign of anything like the brush conducter thats rubs on the outside of the drum, as used on some machines but did not strip it down completely. I have a belt on order and have asked her to try the dryer on as many different settings as possible before I return.
This could be a dryness sensor or a module problem, methinks.Re: Whirlpool AWZ241 TD
Hi Iadom
Just open the door and look inside the drum and down (basically the outside of the filter). If there are 2 metal strips running across give them a clean with a damp cloth and some washing up liquid to clean them. These are the contacts that sense dryness. They measure in ohms and tell the machine that the clothes are dry when it reaches a certain value( i know they are on the condenser version, not quite sure about the air vent version) i have just had a look and the 2 metal strips are there. This is most definately the fault on the sensed drySparkyp
