ParticipantHi I have been asked my a neighbour to look at a heat pump dryer , they said they were no longer getting water into the container . Normally I wouldn’t do heat pumps but as its a neighbour and seemed like a blockage or pump I thought ok ill have a go , well what a nightmare, completely dismantled to find no fault with the pump impeller or blockages , ran the machine for a good hour and the clothes were luke warm . Is there a way to test if the the compressor has lost gas ? Compressor body feels hot as do some of the pipes tested the temp at 50c on top pipe at compressor, the cold pipe was not ice cold as I would have expected its was cool at around 13c ? Any advice would be really appreciated thanks alan

Moderatoryou cant check for gas problems without putting guages in the system and then you need refrigeration training and info on gas, loading etc
if the clothes are warm i would say its working and the system is a heat pump that moves heat from evaporator to condensor.
are clothes drying ?
have you checked seals. ?
if you can touch evaporator when its running it shoul be cold and wet through dropped condensation

ParticipantThanks for the reply , the clothes are warm but it takes a long time to get warm , the evaporator doest seems to be as cold as I would expect and bearly any condensation, I asked them to try a load in this afternoon and after 2 hours nothing in the water collector , seals and fans all working, its very clean inside with no fluff clogging anything, I think it is low on r134a as the low line doest even get cold enough to sweat ? High line is very hot cant hold it for more than a few seconds

ParticipantIf it gets warm but you get no water I’m afraid its got no gas. Dead in the water. Claim under the parts warranty.
