Asda which is now of course part of the American Walmart Group is set to launch an online electrical store it is reported today. According to MarketingWeek the supermarket giant is to capture a 5% slice of the UK’s £1.9bn online electrical market, by 2012.
Gordon Hewlett, the head of online merchandise for the comapny says the online electrical market is growing at a rate of 30% a year and states, “Asda’s low price electricals are now available throughout the UK for the first time.”
Small domestic appliances can already be bought in Asda stores nationwide, while a wider range of electricals, from washing machines to MP3 players, can be found in the retailer’s larger Supercentres and Living stores.
Last week, as was widely reported, Asda started selling DVD players for £9.
