A discrimination lawsuit filed in Nashville by 15 black employees of the Whirlpool Corporation plant in La Vergne claims the company fostered a racially hostile environment, reports AP.

The employees say they were passed over for promotions and their complaints to management were brushed to the side. According to attorneys, 12 white employees have come forward to back up the claims. The suit seeks more than $50 million from a federal jury.

Whirlpool officials deny the claims and point to an investigation by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, which found no probable cause. The suit was originally filed in 2003, according to court records, but was suspended while the sides were engaged in meditation.

Whirlpool is a leading manufacturer of major home appliances. The La Vergne plant makes air conditioners, built-in refrigerators, air purifiers and dehumidifiers.
