Aappliance retailer Comet has reported a fall in sales for November and December 2009. Parent company, Kesa, have said that sales were down by 3.9% on a like-for-like basis.
However, this is a better result that was expected by some analysts.
Sales across the Kesa group as a whole were up 1.3%, however, with its French business, Darty France, recording a 5.2% increase.
Kesa’s chief executive Thierry Falque-Pierrotin said that other businesses in the Netherlands and the Czech Republic were also facing continued tough conditions, with sales down 5.5%.
Developing businesses in Turkey and Italy appear to have performed better, with sales up 9%. Online sales across the group rose by 19.3%.
