It didn’t take that long, perhaps a little longer than we’d thought but it was almost inevitable that a lawsuit would be launched in the United States over Samsung’s exploding washing machines.

Samsung going to court over exploding washing machinesWe’re certain Samsung will have seen this coming as well.

To put a little perspective on how much grief Samsung might be facing, there’s about 2.8 million affected machines in the field and the machines suspension appears to come dislodged, the machine then violently rattles itself to destruction.

Not that bad if you’re not standing close to it at the time although it will almost certainly damage it’s surroundings. But if you are standing close to the machine when it decides to self destruct then you might get hit by flying debris and, that is exactly what’s happened to a few people so there’s a personal injury element in this as well.

In short, we’d think Samsung are facing hefty bill either way that will likely run to millions of dollars.

The bigger or more embarrassing problem for Samsung is that the lawsuit alleges that Samsung knew about its exploding washing machine problem for years and did little (nothing?) to warn consumers. And if that proves to be the case, the bill will probably rise steeply as Samsung will probably get punished for that if proven.

Now though there appears to be another, separate, lawsuit being initiated in Canada where the machines were also sold. Double whammy.

It ain’t happy times for Samsung.
