Had a few of these lately, and if you’re not on the ball you can easily miss it.

Latest one was someone asking for a call back regarding quotes for machine prices, the number given began with ‘070’.
Whilst they look like normal mobile numbers they are in fact personal numbers that can be set to a high rate, racking up a large bill for the caller which all goes to the owner of the 070 number.
Ofcom are trying to sort it… but which genius allocated the 07 prefix in the first place? 👿

Apologies if this has been posted before, but have had a couple like this in recent weeks.

Cheers for that, at first sight it’ll look like a mobile. Have to keep my wits about me. 🙂

Was given a 070 number by a landlord to call his tennant. She never answered went straight to voicemail. Need to check my bill before I return with parts. Insurers may be getting an extra line on the their invoice.
    THANKS AGAIN.

    TAKEN FROM OFCOM SITE 2013

    What are 070 numbers?

070 numbers are legitimate numbers and are often used as a ‘follow me’ service where calls are diverted from one number to another, so that the person being called can keep their own number private, and remain contactable wherever they go.

Small businesses and sole traders use them to make it easy to manage calls.

070 numbers are also sold on a one-off basis, for example when someone is buying or selling a used car and doesn’t want to advertise their private mobile or fixed line number on a website or magazine.

They typically cost 52p per minute if calling from a landline (and often include a call set-up fee, sometimes of up to 51p).

From a mobile phone these numbers can cost between 30p and £1.50 per minute.
