    Hi everyone,

Tonight, about half way through a wash cycle my slimline Bosch dishwasher made a load popping sound and tripped the mains circuit it was on. There was also a ‘hot electrical smell’.

At first I wasn’t sure what had caused the trip but when I reset the switch I realised it was the dishwasher which now will not switch on and is dead.

I can’t really provide anymore information than that. But can anyone tell me if it is worth getting it repaired given that it is already 10 years old and has provided outstanding service with only one minor problem in all of that time.

A new one is £400 approx. But if something major has gone on the old one I expect it will cost over £100 to fix.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

The chances are that the interference capacitor has gone pop . Pull the machine out and look at the rear bottom panel If you can see black ‘shadows’ around the area where the mains cable enters the machine then that would confirm it .

    Power off before investigating

Hi Paul, thanks for the quick response.

I’ve just had a look at the rear of the machine and I can’t see any black shadows like you describe.

I’ve been reading back through the forum and it suggests that the machine should still function even after this has blown (although it will probably cut out again).

So I’ve changed the fuse in the mains plug but the machine still won’t turn on.

Is there anything else that it is likely to be?

The part number you require is 498262 I believe.

It can likley be purchased via the whitegoods shop -google/ebay etc

But it shouldnt cost very much and is a relatively easy swap.

If it isnt the regulator then your main control board will need looking at.

Generally not a cost effective to repair if board has gone considering the age.

Thanks for the responses. I’ve just detached the machine to have a good look at it.

Can anyone provide a few clues on how to get the panels off please? I haven’t got a Torx but I’ll get one tomorrow.

I’ve repaired a tumble-dryer before but this seems quite a bit more complicated.

    Many thanks again.

No need to remove any of the side panels, the mains filter is located where the mains cable enters the machine at the back, its a ‘prise out’ job. 😉

    That’s good to know. Thanks.

Can you tell me which bit in the attached photo I need to prise out?

Are there any screws that I need to unscrew first?

Do I need to disconnect the mains cable?

    Update.

So I ended up taking the left side panel off to have a closer look at the supressor. In fact I managed to get it off from the side (I couldn’t prise the unit out from the back). Unfortunately it’s clean and intact. It’s this part here:

So, given it’s age, the dishwasher looks like a scrapper.

    Thanks for your help.

Hey noodle! Have you actually un-plugged the suppressor from the terminal block and inspected it? You say that it’s “clean and intact” but are you sure about that? Answer carefully now ‘cos if you say yes then I’ve got to buy these guys here (watching the rugby) the next round of drinks. 😥

    Fraid so Martin.
So you’ll have to hit the bar.

    Here’s a pic:
