Noticed a lot of the 1607’s and 256W’s I’ve supplied are looking shabby already. The powder coating around the soap drawer edges and inside the cabinet under the dispenser are usually peeling or rusty. The powder coating goes like Curly Kale cabbage and becomes a spongy plasicky mess that can be picked off with your nails… 😯
Granted, the machines in question are not cleaned and the dispensers are messy, but I’ve powder coated suspension components on cars that receive a much harder life than a washing machine exterior and they hold up just fine.
I think the powder coating on the newer machines is on the outside face only; the edges are not being sealed – so in the case of the drawer fronts, the water and soap gets behind it, rotting it like the old Indesits used to do.
    I don’t mention it……but I feel I should here….. 😉

    Thoughts please!!

Yeah, it’s known about and there’s not much that can be done TBH.

The bottom line is that the spillage and subsequent failure to clean the drawer causes it and just rots the metal as it’s exposed to chemicals that eat it away. Often they’re left there uncleaned for months with damp rotting chemical goo over them.

    So, it’s hardly surprising really.

Maybe they need to go down the direct enamel path as you won’t get this from a Miele machine.
