re noise – sure but presumably still relative. If put in the same place – one with lower noise level will be quieter….?
As far as Miele – yes tempted but doesn’t come with 5 year guarantee (we’ve had 2 gone wrong within 3 years of purchase) AND do Miele make their low-end machines or are they just badged. Salesman from Huges Electrical worried me by suggesting that the G975/G977 and low-end models aren’t actually made by Miele. Then again, he also suggested that AEG, Bosch and Siemens were all the same company so shows how much he knows!

Miele only make machines for Miele – period.
AEG, Zanussi and Tricity-Bendix are parts of Electrolux.
Bosch, Siemens, Neff and Gaggenau are all linked together.
Noise levels emitted by the machine will depend upon whether the machine is free-standing, or enclosed by kitchen cabinets on either side. A carpeted floor will deaden sound; a hard floor will reflect and transmit sound.
Noise will also depend upon whether a full load is washed (significantly quieter) than if the machine is run empty.

PhilHi
Oh yes they are Phil 😉
The G977SC is replacing the 975. If you decide on the 975 see if you can get a deal on it 😉 .Don

thanks Don,
Do you happen to know the difference between the 975 and the 977?
And would you go for this low-end Miele with 2 year warranty over the top-end AEG with 5 years?
Main factors are:
reliability,
plates/pots/cutlery cleaning ability,
ease of use/maintenance,
economy,
drying ability,
programme speed,
glasses cleaning ability,
load capacity,probably in that order……
thanks

The same machine on the outside and the same spec as far as I can see.
Only difference is the 975 has a cutlery tray above the top basket. Each item sits in its own slot ensuring excellent wash results. The 977 has had a basket upgrade whereby the top basket water feed is under the basket as opposed to the top and the bottom basket has fold down plate racks.phancey wrote:

PhilPersonally I would be more than happy to purchase the Miele over the AEG. All the other criteria you are looking at will be basically the same as the AEG.

excellent info Don.
the 977 sounds good – but why did they get rid of the cutlery tray? 2 steps forward, 1 step back???
Everyone raves about the cutlery tray – what happens to the bits of food stuck to your cutlery? Does it not just lie there, sticking to your cutlery (i.e bit of cabbage or something?)
This forum is so good….!

It would appear it`s a case of cutlery baskets for the base model and the tray for mid and upper range. We use the good old basket and I must admit even packing two pieces per slot still gives a good wash. Not as good as the results I have seen from the tray though.

ok so I’ve got to decide between the 975 with cutlery tray or the 977 without but with (presumably) better top basket washing and foldable plate rack……
Oooh – one other question occurs to me. Will servicing be so much more expensive because it’s Miele? Parts and presumably labour too because they use computer etc….

Servicing of Miele appliances is more specialist than some of the other manufacturers so I guess that will be reflected in the labour charges. But having purchased a quality machine breakdowns should be fewer we hope……….

it is worth looking on the john lewis website as they have the mieli g975sc
for £369 with 2 year gaurantee + £79 to extend it to 5 years and if that is the outgoing model you might be able to get the longer gaurantee thrown in for nothingApril 17, 2007 at 12:33 pm #210932phancey

might try that – thanks.
The only other thing that makes me more inclined to the AEG is that I emailed all of them – AEG, Siemens and Miele. Asking different questions but the only ones who have got back to me (not quite 24 hours later) are AEG. Very prompt. In fact they’ve replied to a further 2 queries while I have yet to hear from Siemens and Miele.
Now I know that Pre-Sales doesn’t necessarily reflect After-Sales but good god, if you can’t be prompt with Pre-Sales then it does worry me what the After Sales will be like…….
Any comments on Miele After Sales Customer Care/Service?
Phil
