ParticipantHi there.
I would love some advice on my ever-so temperamental washer dryer.
It’s a Hotpoint WD640 (there may be a “P” on the end too, I’m at work so can’t look at it)It’s been fine for a while (though the rubber door seal got mouldy and smelly – I scrubbed that with “clothes” bleach last month)
But last night it has gone kaput, and is displying two errors….FO8 AND H2O …..While I have worked out H2O is something to do with either water in, or water out, I can’t see the FO8 in the booklet.
Whatever cycle I put it on, it clicks the doorlock on, then either displays “end” or one the the above mentioned codes.
Can anyone shed some light on this problem, and let me know if it’s fixable, or should I start pricing up new machines? Money is tight (likewise for most folk), as my husband has been made redundant, and I am only allowed to work part-time hours for health reasons.
Thanks in advance, and thanks for reading

If you do a search of this forum, enter Indesit AND eight AND flashes in that exact format and you will get some idea of the problems you may have.
F08 is supposed to signify a heater relay fault on the main PCB.

Or change the machine, now that is perfect.
Don’t forget that if it is under 5 years old you are covered for the cost of all parts, you only have to pay the ‘modest’ labour charge. :rolls:

Thanks iadom, will given Hotpoint a call – this is our second machine in 3 years (the first one gave us SO many problems in the first year, they gave in to my demands of a new one in the end, and now this one is also giving us headaches)
Will the labour charge cover a new door seal and detergent drawer….may as well be cheeky and get the lot changed.
Also, is the labour charge a hourly rate, or a set fee?And finally, when I can afford to replace this wretched machine, what brand would you advice?
Sorry for the barage of questions, and thanks for all your help, much appreciated

If you ask nicely you may get the seal changed but they are not obliged to do so. Badly soiled door seals are due to the way your are using the machine, only using low temperatures and liquid detergents will lead to nasty looking door seals.
Manky door sealsThe Indesit Companies labour charge is currently £99.85, this is not time specific and covers all parts required. They will try and talk you into paying another £60.00 for an extra 12 months warranty, a real bargain, £60 to cover you for the possibility of a £99.85 labour charge. :rolls:
No engineer worth his salt would ever advise anyone to buy a Washer/dryer. 😉
The only decent, reliable washer dryer on the market is a Miele.
If it is in any way possible try and find room for separate washer & dryer.

Thanks again for getting back to me Jim.
You are right about low temperatures and liquid detergents, that’s exactly what I do (think most of our clothes are 40 degree wash stuff!)
Also, I’m more inclined to go for just a washing machine next time, I can count on one hand the amount of times I’ve used the dryer this year, I tend to line dry, or use the radiators and a clothes horse, so urgent stuff could either be done using the rads’ with the temperature turned up, or rely on good old Mumsie and her turbo dryer!
Thanks again for all your help, much appreciated.
Have a great weekend
