ParticipantHi guys
This is my first time posting. I’ve got a Creda 48364 cooker, when I moved in 18 months ago the owners said the cooker was quite new etc so I questioned them when I realised three rings didn’t work.
They said they were working the day before but that doesn’t seem at all feasible – CAN 3 hob rings go all at once?!
Basically I need to find out if there’s ANY other reason for this other than that the elements need replacing. If they do, it’s going to cost me close to £200 for parts alone and I’d rather get a new cooker.
Each hob ring makes the right “coming on” noise when I turn the knob but nothing happens, the one hob ring I have left works perfectly.
I also have a problem with the top oven in that it burns everything at the back so I have to turn trays around all the time which is pretty annoying.
If anyone could tell me what’s causing these problems, I’d be very grateful
Thanks in advance for your help.

If you give us the full serial number we could tell you the age of the cooker.
There are two main reasons for rings to fail, either the regulator ( control ) or the ring itself is faulty.
Whilst it would be extremely unfortunate for three to fail at the same time it could happen. If you moved in 18 months ago does this mean that you found all three rings were faulty the first time you used it, have you managed on only one ring for 18 months ?
The only way to proceed is to get each individual ring tested electrically, the regulators are much less expensive than the hob elements. Please be sure to isolate the appliance from the mains if you intend to do this yourself.
The top oven is only intended as a back up and will not cook as well as the fan assisted oven.
This cooker was sold as a Currys exclusive BTW.

The serial number is 69 1 00058
Ah thanks for that info, I have only used the main oven a few times, Christmas 2007 and twice when baking cakes hehe! I live alone so I never use the main one for daily cooking as it’s so big, in fact I’ve only just realised you can slow cook in it – I’m not very domestic!
TBH I generally steam veg in the microwave and oven cook other food so I barely use the hob ring, now though I am having friends over more and find having one hob ring to be a real pain.
I wouldn’t have a clue how to go about testing the rings myself, I haven’t even been able to get the glass panel off the top 😳 I’m not sure about unplugging it from the mains either, I’ve tried moving it but unlike a washing machine, it wouldn’t budge AT ALL, is there a trick other than the wiggle motion to get it moving?

Date code 69 would put the machine at Sept 1999 or Sept 2007 which would mean it was only weeks old when you moved in. A failure of three rings in such a short space of time would be very unlikely indeed.
My guess is that it would be the earlier date but you never know. It would really have been quite obvious by looking at the condition of the inside of both ovens to tell if it was weeks old or over 8 years old when you adopted it.
Cookers of this size will almost certainly be hardwired into a socket in a cupboard close to the machine or on the wall nearby to allow the machine to be switched off.
TBH it sounds as though you would be well advised to get someone in to look at it. The Creda cookers from 1999 and before were very well made appliances and well worth repairing.
Try the link at the bottom of your posts to check if we have someone who can help.
Jim.
EDIT. Checking on the parts list shows that one or two cosmetic items are obsolete, strongly suggesting it is a 1999 model.

Thanks for that, I’ll definitely look at getting it repaired then. No way was it Sept 2007, I moved in at the end of that month and it was definitely older, the paint is flaking a bit to the side of the main oven door, the one I hardly use.
They did say it was a very expensive oven and looking, I know it would cost close to £500 to get a Hotpoint (Creda) model of the same spec.
Thanks for all your help, I’ve already looked up the people on this site and will call them in the morning. Thanks again, Jess x

It would be impossible to get a Hotpoint/Creda of that same spec/quality, they have been rebadged Indesit for some time now. 😥 -
