ParticipantHi.
My elderly parents need to replace their fridge. The problem is that their fridge is only 50cm wide. The gap to locate the fridge is a max of 53.5cm.There is a tall unit on one side and worktop on the other. There is a worktop overhang of approx 3cm. But the worktop would not be removeable and to trim the overhang runs the risk of damaging the worktop and potentially the wall. So to trim the worktop would be a very reluctant, very last resort. There is no other space in their small kitchen that would fit a fridge.
The existing fridge is 54cm deep and 144cm high. I’m on the look out for a 50cm wide fridge – white – that is a vaguely similar height.
I have seen worktop height fridges that are 50cm wide – but could really do with one that has larger capacity.
Any suggestions would be amazing
many thanks

ParticipantI should perhaps add that the existing fridge is a Proline model from 2008. It is working very hard, making a fair bit of noise but not keeping stuff cool. I suspect that it is a goner!

ModeratorTo get the height you need to get to 55cm wide. If this is impossible then you could at a push stack 2 X 50cm wides.
BIG HOWEVER you would need to mount the upper one on a shelf and secure it to the wall and also a universal door handle would be required lower down the door. to aid opening. This is not something I would recommend but………..

Participantthanks Don. I have seen a coupe of slimline fridge freezers. But the need is for the fridge only. Current thinking is towards a LEC 112L fridge that is 84.5 cm tall and 50.1cm high. Whilst it’s not ideal, the capacity is reasonable. I’m thinking of the possibility of installing a plinth to raise it a foot or so. thanks Chris

ParticipantGone with the LEC from Boots appliances (through AO) I have used them a few times before and found them to be decent. Thanks for you help folks.
