ParticipantHi folks
I am being harangued by the OH to replace a perfectly good Bosch FF, because it’s old. Never mind, ours not to reason why.
Now, I have a 56cm slot for the appliance, so I’m inclined to look for a 55cm model. Only issue is, apart from the Bush-class tins, not very many credible manufacturers seem to have any models of this size any more; the most common width seems to have drifted above the 60cm mark, and don’t even get me started on the American-style models 😡 .
There are no Best Buys at this size on the Which? website, and the only product with a decent test score is the Miele KT12510S – but it’s not a frost-free model.
So, I would gratefully receive any advice on any sub-56cm appliances, and also recommendations on retailers or e-tailers that actually can be bothered to find one to sell me. Incidentally, even the otherwise helpful bloke in John Lewis was pretty non-plussed when I said ‘fifty-five’.FWIW, answers to the standard questions:
- Do you keep more fresh or frozen foods? Fresh. Ideally a 60/40 split.
Do you want frost free or not? Yes, if I can find one.
Do you have any restrictions on size, especially height with fridge freezers? Width must be 555mm or less, height up to 1750mm.
Will the machine be in a room at normal room temps (18-21C)? Yes, in the kitchen.
Do you store a lot of bottles, wine etc.? Nice to have, not essential.July 23, 2014 at 6:48 am #417029SAMURI

If it is reliable and working stick with the old one.
It is no good buying a new nice looking one if it is not going to be as reliable as your old one.
It is better to have cold food in an old fridge than warm food in a new one.

Hi
The only ones out there worth having and meet your criteria are the Hotpoint RFAA52 non frost free and the FFAA52 frost free fridge freezers.
HTH 🙂

Thanks for the replies, folks.
Don, continuing my search, I found the consumer version of the Liebherr website, which is myliebherr.co.uk. I note that you recommended Hotpoint but not Liebherr – any concerns with the latter?
They do seem to have a couple of 55cm units.July 24, 2014 at 9:55 am #417032don

Hi
Nothing wrong with Liebherr at all in fact they are the best you can buy. I assumed rightly or wrongly that as you had found the one model which was not suitable for your criteria they no longer produced 55cm machines.
Liebherr also produce refrigeration for Miele as well so if you have enough pennies Liebherr is the way to go.
