ParticipantThese devices are described as thermal cut out kit but as it switches on the top cooling fan when a certain temperature is reached , perhaps it should be described as a thermal cut in.(or even fan initiation stat :))
Is this simply a poor description from the manufacturer or have I got it wrong and it really is a cut out :?:.
Penguin and eastlemark are surely referring to the same part here.

Yep they are refering to the same thing 🙂
I’ve just opened one up and taken readings:
Two white leads – ~ 24k resistance
Two blue leads – open circuit.I can only assume there is a small heater in there that triggers a type of reed switch to close and switch the fan on, much like a washing machine interlock 😕
I could be way of of course 😉

Dave is correct, it wires in series with the fan element, the drawn current heats a little bi metal which switches on the cooling fan and keeps it on until this bi metal slowley cools. A cheap solution to what many use timing pcb’s for. Unfortunatly it has proved not too reliable.
The whole situation is not helped by Electrolux parts diagrams either not showing it or describing it rather confusingly as a cut out kit.August 20, 2006 at 8:56 am #185758bobokines

Surely this is connected in Parallel to the heating element.. It’s 24K resistance!

You are correct Bob. and it is in parrallel with the oven fan motor rather than the element 😳

got me thinking about the old Candy door interlock that was on the switch bank. That used to be in SERIES with the spin coils of the motor and when it burned out, which was often, it gave a no spin fault that used to baffle engineers not used to such things.

The Creda 18501 series dishwasher (That horrible thing that sits under the sink unit) had the timer motor in series with the heater.
Another one that fooled many an engineer.
