ParticipantHello all,
This is my first post here as I need some advice regarding my Hotpoint washing machine. It has become very noisy when on spin and having had a look at it the bearing at the back of the drum seems to be the problem.
The machine itself is not quite 2 years old which is dissapointing as I do not expect it to fail this early. Having spoken to Hotpoint it looks as if I’ll have to fork out as much as £160 to potentially get it fixed which is shocking for a virtually new machine.
Having a mechanical background how feasable is it for me to carry out the repair myself after ordering the spares myself or should I just bite the bullet and pay the money.
Regards and Thanks.
Just had a read of this article.

Participantis the pump filter at the front of the machine, or is it at the rear?
if its at the front, then the drum will be the sealed type, and the bearings are non servicable
if theres a red blanking plug (under the kickstrip) then its a split tub and yes you can put bearings in it
my moneys on it being welded
hotpoint can only charge you £99 if its under 5 yrs old
pathetic isnt it? like buying the machine off them twice
welcome to the world of hotpoint

Let me expand on what I would have to pay out to Hotpoint for them to attemp a fix on the machine:
£99 for an engineer to come out which he will fix if possible. If not he walks away with the money and leaves me witha broken machine.
or
£160 in instalmants over the year, the engineer attempts a fix and then if unsuccesful cancels the subscription and again leaves me with a broken machine.
Thinking it may be worth biting the bullet and getting a new machine.

Having just had another look at the machine if I open the door and lift the internal metal drum from the inside there is about 10mm lift in the bearing as measured from the front of the drum. I am actually nervous about using it any more in case the bearing completely fails in a catastrophic manner which it sounds like it is close to when on a high spin.
Would a engineer be able to repair this fault?
Is it even worth getting back to hotpoint to book the engineer?
If I’m going to have to buy a new machine then recommendations, Bosch has a good name on these forums?
Many thanks.

Considering this one, does it have the dreaded sealed drum?
BOSCH WAE24364GB
http://www.comet.co.uk/shopcomet/produc … WAE24364GB
or maybe the BOSCH WAE24164GB which I believe is the same as the one above just without the LED display.

Participantthe one without the display is as good , less bells and whistles, and will outlast the hotopint 10 fold
as for the welded drums…..
cant always tell , untill you take the lid off and look
there are some bosch achines with welded drums

Hi
You will probably need to check if you can, I had a a small quantity of the Bosch WAE24364`s delivered last week with fd 8907 stamped on them which is July production of this year and lo and behold they have a split tub.
HTH 🙂
