I had a search for the old thread about the £99 deal but it seems to be irretrievable at the moment.
Had a WT540 or some such the other week. Was doing an odd thing with motor starting up then cutting out after a few seconds, IIRC. Tacho was fine and could not see anything obvious. Bearings were on their way and it was a sealed tub so I suggested she call them, tell them the problems over the phone and make sure they came prepared to do it all in one go and not to let them sell her any insurance that she didn’t want. I then made her swear an oath to let me know what happened 😀 .
Bloke arrived from Truro (about 30 miles away.)
She read me from the receipt what he’d replaced for £105 all in.
Complete drum assy, complete motor, heating element and ntc, “new eeprom” 😕 , and he’d, “left the old circuit board in the dustbin”.
She was well pleased to get all that lot done for £105 and in 65 minutes. I guess the pump, water valves, interlock and RIF must have been OK. In due course I’ll probably get those to do 😀 .

She must have signed a extended service contract surely? 😕

I know it’s win some loose some, but they don’t need too many jobs like that ! but then again I hope they get loads of them.

No way. She is adamantly against such things and on top of that I advised her against it, given that the machine is used fairly lightly (2 person household).
Incidentally, the intention of my post was partly to wonder how much fault-finding had taken place on the part of the Hotpoint engineer. Motor + board + heater all faulty?
    Mike.
