ParticipantBit of a long shot but was wondering if anyone has had any experience working on these machines 😯
They dragged this thing over from the states when they moved here 8 years ago, the machine is around 10 yrs old, couldnt find a mod numb.Anyway, i can pretty much see whats wrong, theres a 200lb spring in a housing at the bottom of the cabinet where the drum shaft bolts to the bottom pulley, this is meant to keep the drum central, along with 6 small springs ( its going mad on spin)
Anyone know if this is a job worth taking on & where the hell to get the bits 😯 (yes, work is quiet :rolls: )Thanks,
Eddie.December 4, 2009 at 6:28 pm #305634BobHope

Hi madmack
it will need the snubber changing, not done one for a while now but it can be done without taking that spring out dont tempt removing that spring without the proper tool as it will cause you damage. dont have the part number handy but im sure someone will.

Cheers bob, wasnt expecting a reply to this one 🙂 so the bottom spring & the little exposed ones will be ok then? I assume a ‘snubber’ is some sort of bush/friction pad 😯
If its gonna end in me loosing an eye i’ll probably not bother mind :eeek:December 4, 2009 at 8:02 pm #305636BobHope

the snubber is the plastic pad under the washtub / gearbox its about the size of a frizzbe, they are cheap to buy and not to bad of a job.
just google snubber replacment and there is loads of info on how to do it.

http://www.partadvantage.com for parts information and use this link for service info:- http://servicematters.com/maytag_librar … index.html
Read bulletin:- ITDL-0020A-B
This will give you a better understanding of stripping it down.Personally I would remove the transmission and replace the snubber then refit the transmission. The white powder in the base is cornflour for friction. Do not lubricate it.
If you dont have the brake spring removal tool leave the pulley in place and this will ensure the spring isnt released.

There probably is??? but I dont know what it is. Its just cornflour . Dont use too much though you dont want to end up with a pile of pastry after the first wash 😆
