ParticipantHi, would be grateful if anybody can help.
Bought this reasonably expensive fridge thinking it would be good quality in April 2008.
The freezer is now not working properly and is not freezing the contents.
The fridge does seem to be cold and working.
Took all the food out and the grill at the bottom back of the freezer appears to be really quite warm and almost smells like its burning slightly.
Any ideas what is wrong and how it can be mended ???? or who to get to mend it in London if I cant mend it.
Any help much appreciated.
Thanks
Will

Hi
Defrost heater is virtually the culprit.turn it off for 24hrs with both doors left open and then restart it…if its not defrosting then after about 7-10 days the freezer will start not working again.

hi will, mixed signals here i’m afraid. you say that the evaporator is warm? (the unit in the freezer behind the back panel) yet you say that the fridge is ok?
the fridge takes it’s ‘cold’ directly from the freezer and so it’s impossible for the fridge to be ok and the freezer be warm.
if the defrost heater has stuck, then it looks like a pcb fault.
there’s a poster on here by the name of old lonely who should be able to help you.
perhaps worth a pm to him?
cheers.November 16, 2010 at 9:59 pm #3360761670will

Hi Bryan
Not sure I understand your reply, the problem is that the freezer IS defrosting.
Do you know what problem with defrost heater might be ?
thanks

Hi Alf
Thanks for your comments, I here what you say about the fridge getting its chill from the freezer. I am defrosting the entire fridge for 24hrs and will turn it all back on and see what happens.
Re the heater, are you suggesting the defrost heater might become stuck on ?
Can this occur due to some kind of physical problem, ie iceing up inside the fridge somewhere too much or a broken sensor, or is it always an electronic problem with the PCB ?I will try and contact old lonely as well.
many thanks
Will

will, defrosting the fridge will only alleviate the symptoms for a while, if it’s iced up that is.
obviously if it’s warm, then there won’t be any ice to defrost.
if the heater is sticking on, then it will be the pcb.
we can only speculate and talk in terms of probability, but old lonely will be able to sort you out.
he’ll either be able to repair it, or he’ll know someone local to you.cheers.
