Further to my message last week about my ADP8332 which was washing the kitchen floor rather than the dishes 🙁 I was able to trace the fault to a split seal deep in the bowels of the machine.

It turns out this seal, which joins the water collector at one end, is an integral (ie heat-sealed) part of the spray pump which in turn is sold by Whirlpool only with the motor, meaning a 50p rubber thing will cost me over £100 to replace.

Leaving aside what poor design this appears to be, does anyone have any bright ideas? Ideally I’d like to find either a salvaged spray pump (without the motor, as the two parts will supposedly unscrew) or even better a replacement hose. It’s about 25mm diameter at one end, approx 32mm at the other. A local engineer suggested a car parts supplier would be a good bet but I don’t think I’d be popular going in there with the old seal and saying “Please can you search through your stores for something like this”!

As far as I remember you can buy the pump without the motor. Dave will be able to advise better on this.

Now here’s one of those funny things that makes you wonder what the manufacurers are up to:

    Pump chamber with impellor and seals – 4812 360 18511 – £75.55
    Pump motor complete – 4812 361 58334 – £75.55

    Plus VAT and dely……………….

Unless Mr Conway knows better of course 😀

eMail to spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk for ordering and confirmed pricing.

Both parts supersede to 4812 361 58334 as Whirlpool have changed the design of the motor and pump. The original is a magnetic (Askoll) type, the replacement is an induction motor (comes with kit).

Oh well, scratch that idea as a money saver then 🙁
I never got to know the price of parts I was fitting, boss kept it very secret 😛

Thanks to Dave, I now have at least one option to replace the part, though not in time for the aftermath of the Christmas dinner 🙁

As an aside, is this type of arrangement (ie rubber pipe splits, have to replace the whole motor) typical in dishwashers? If so, does anyone know why? If not, I won’t be buying any Whirlpool products in future.

    Not especially.

I think on this occasion, Whirlpool sourced a circulation motor from somewhere different than their normal supplier (financial decision no doubt), found it to be unreliable and replaced with another more reliable type.
