Hi! Found the site while trying to get solid and useful information about washing machines, learned a lot and wanted to get advice on which is the best buy for me.

Our last machine was a Bush that lasted from 2001, I read that since then they were bought by Argos. As it stands there’s just me and my dad in the house and we only need to do washing loads when there’s enough for the machine – so we’re well below average in terms of loads per year, and rarely really big loads. I found opinion on the site that outsourcing duvet washes to a professional service would be best but if possible we would like to have that as a possibility (single duvet, 13 tog). It doesn’t need any tumble drying feature as we have a standalone. The machine will be standing on concrete and in the past we almost exclusively used a mixed cotton wash – we just wear very good value functional clothes mostly, nothing high end or massively expensive.

I imagine build quality has deteriorated because of retail costs, since 2001, by quite a bit. I can see benefits to going top end (Miele, £700+) which would pay for itself, but also that buying something dirt cheap again is a viable gamble on the basis that if it turns out to be good, all great; if it’s a lemon we then go top end. That’s the route my father prefers too. If you want any further info please ask,

I went with Miele. My last post in this thread sums up my experience dealing direct with them on the phone today. Maybe useful to you 🙂

Without specific recommendations we went down the route I mentioned where I honoured my father’s wish to get something on the value end this time, which was a Bush, and if that ends up being tat we’ll buy a proper one in future.
